June 12, 1935'
A regular meeting of the Planning Board was held in the
Town Office Building on ednesday, June 12, 1935, at 8 30 P. M.
i.:e ssrs . Duffy, Ellis, t i.mball, Robinson and Greeley were present .
The minutes of the last meeting meeting were read and accepted.
A petition for zoning change on Pleasant street near the
new Concord Highway was read, and it was explained that the
petitioner, one ,r. iv_oody, had first applied to the Board of
Appeals, and had been referred to the Planning board. The pet-
ition called for a change from Residence to Business of a plot
about 100 feet awa-: from the highway, and fronting on Pleasant
Street . Henry
After some discussion, it was felt that the area, while Moody
not on the new Highway, did definitely affect it . Accordingly Petition
the Clerk was instructed to write Mr. koody to the effect that
the Board wished him to wait until after the results of the
Cotton Bill were ascertained. Mr . Duffy reported that this
Bill was expected to come out of committee in the near future .
Mr. Robinson mentioned that kr. Bashian had unofficially
declared that he was going to apply for a Business Zone at the
"Bluffs" in exchange for the donation of some land as a public
park.
jr. Greeley mentioned that a' . L. G. Mitchell, civic
Committee, Lexington Field and Garden Club, had asked for
suggestions as to where his organization could aid the Town by
planting flowers or shrubs on the embankments at highway cuts .
T.r . Duffy; reported that Stone-Heap Inn was being offered
for sale , and that the mortgage owners were offering it to the
Town at 'that they considered to be a very reasonable price .
The Clerk was instructed to write them to the effect that the
Board saw no use for the property at the present time .
Discussion of top-soil stripping resulted in bringing out
the opinion that such a use was undesirable only when it assumed
the dimensions of a business, at which times it could be pro- Top
hibited on the basis of being a business in a residential district . Soil
It was felt that in a Zoning By-Law, a dividing line would be
very difficult to draw. I,ir . Robinson suggested that some amend-
ment might be useful from the administrative point of view.
The clerk was instructed to write the Board of Selectmen
to the effect that the Board did not feel that an amendment to
the Zoning By-Law was necessary.
Discussion of the parking census brought out the fact that
Mr . Kimball and Mr . Greeley were putting in considerable time
summarizing the results of the count. They were instructed to Parking
draw up a report and submit it to the Board for approval, be-
fore submitting it to the Board of Selectmen.
The meeting adjourned at 11 :00 P M.
