Borden F7 L Resigned Appointed 1 PLANNING BOARD MEETING January 9, 1935 A meeting of the Planning Board was held in the Conference Room of the Town Office Building on Wednesday, January 9, 1935 at 7:30 P. M, Messrs, Duffy, Ellis, Greeley, Kimball and Robinson were present. The minutes of the December 12th meeting were read and accepted. The Clerk's draft of the Annual Report of the Board was read, altered, and approved when rewritten as altered. Mr, Duffy reported from the Regional Board as follows: - A meeting of the Board was attended by Senator Moyse of Waltham, and by Representatives Gott and Crosby of Arlington, and Tarbell of Lincoln, all of whom indicated that they would support the Bill prepared by the Regional Board. Senator Cotton, of Lexing- ton was represented as being in favor of the Bill, and it was Concord decided to ask him to file it in the Legislature. A statement Highway had been prepared by the Board and sent to many Boston and suburban papers. This Bill is essential to protect the State's investment in the Cambridge -Concord Highway, to preserve efficient use of the highway as a major traffic artery Mr, Duffy also pointed out that this Bill is very desirable in spite of the Federation of Planning Boards Bills, because of the need for expediency, specific application, and "extra teeth" in connection with this new, practically completed, and especially ' important State Highway. The Clerk was instructed to communicate with the Editor of the Lexington Minute -Man to this effect. Mr. Thomas Kelley appeared before the Board to ask for a change in zoning so that he might sell his farm produce at the corner of East and Lowell Streets. He was referred to the Board of Appeals, being informed that his case needed only a Board of Thomas Appeals permit. He was further informed that a setback of Kelley twenty feet was required, that he might sell, under a Board of Appeals permit, only produce that he raised in Lexington. The Board intimated that it saw no need for a business zone at that location, Mr. Kelley asked that the Planning Board send him a petition form, and a description of the area that they deemed to be affected by his proposed change. The Clerk was instructed to write Mr, Kelley a letter with the necessary enclosures. Discussion of the Van Ness Bates Plan showed that Mr. Bates failed to meet such obstacles as the abandoning of the Be & M. tracks to Lexington, the cramping of two types of trans- portation on one narrow right-of-way, the supporting of such elaborate schemes of transportation in view of coming tendencies towards decentralization, Mr. Duffy pointed out that increased transportation facilities could not be supported except on a carefully worked out, economical transit system, correlating all transportation facilities in Ibetropolitan Boston. Meeting adjourned at 11:00 P. M. until Wednesday, January 16, 1935. Respectfully submitted, Roland B. Greeley (Signed) Clerk
