M. Messrs. Emery, Scheibe, Duffy and Milne were present. The Town Engineer and secretary fere also present. The Town Engineer presented a plan showing how he extended Cherry Street to Sylvia Street instead of making an additional en- trance to mass. Avenue. This plan will give the owner no direct way to get into the property without going through some other prop- erty. Cherry Street is thirty-five feet wide and in poor condition. It is thought that the idea of having to go through other property will not be so favorable to prospective buyers. A street entering Mass. Avenue at this point would be dangerous because the grade which would be at least 10;?. The distance from Sylvia Street to Charles Street is 780 feet and from Sylvia Street to the proposed street, 215 feet. Relative to the petition of Harry E. Johnson of Arlington, Mass., for approval of layout for a tract for;erly known as the Star Realty Company land, being a narrow strip fronting at one end upon Mass. Avenue between Sylvia Street and Charles Street and close to the former and extending rearward and upward onto the hill for a distance of approximately 1200 feet, the Planning Board, after careful consideration and study of the plan for layout sub- mitted by said Mr, Johnson and drawn by Frederick Joyce, C. E. dated , upon motion duly made and seconded, unanimously voted its unwillingness to recommend a layout such as that presented by the Joyce plan referred to that makes necessary an additional street to enter upon Mass. Avenue between Sylvia Street and Charles Street and within approximately 215 feet from Sylvia Street, because of the danger to traffic and individuals entering upon the proposed street from traffic upon Mass, Avenue, Particularly would another street at the point contemplated be dangerous because of the very steep grade upon the proposed street (approximately 10o at best) adjacent to the junction point. If the 'Down can be saved from any outlay in connection Star therewith, the Planning Board is willing to recommend a layout alt such as indicated upon the sketch presented by the Town Engineer Realty _$ and entitled "Alternative Sketch of Star Realty Development With No Outlet to buss. Avenue. Scale In - 40 1 , November, 1932. The Town Engineer is requested to get in touch with the owner of the adjoining property to the north with vk w of as- certaining if such owner will co-operate with the petitioner, Mr-. Johnson, in plotting the layout last above referred;) presented by the Town Engineer and then to communicate with the petitioner and obtain if possible his acquiescence in the plan last above referred to drawn by the Town Engineer, He is also requested to communicate with the owner of the land between that of the petitioner and Sylvia Street in the vicinity opposite the end of the proposed street para- llel to Mass. Avenue with a view to extending such street through to junction with Sylvia Street. .2. Planning Board Meeting November 21,1932 Last spring the matter of confused advertising was brought up and at that time tir. Milne suggested that it be passed along to the women. Mr. Emery stated that he wrote to Mrs. Knight, Pres- ident of the Outlook Club, and was informed that it should be taken up with Mrs. 'ebster of the Conservative Committee. He did so and Window was asked to speak to the club to start enthusiasm. Letters were Placards sent Thursday, November 17th, by the club to First National Stores, Atlantic a Pacific, .Economy and others asking them to do away with window placards. irrs. 'uebster then asked 15ur. Emery to write a letter backing the idea. This same thing was done in Milton and the putting of placards on windows was done away with. The next step is excessive advertising at filling stations. TheTown Engineer presented a plan of Lincoln Street show- ing the proposed relocation at the Golden Guernsey Farm. It is kr. Custance's idea and he has talked with the State Engineers who think it should be done. Iver. Custance thinks that the Town should have a better road connecting Lincoln and Lexington. The owner is not at all in favor of the change. There are no new houses in this development but there are a few lots that are saleable. Gess pools would have to take care of the sewerage and Mr. Scheibe thinks this would be objectional because it is so near the Camb- ridge .dater Board. If a street were put in here, it would lead the traffic Lincoln down through Lexington center. If the street is straightened, Street it would be better to start near the Five Forks and extend it the other side of the Scheibe property rather than to go through the low land of the Cuchinotta property. It was decided to ask the Town Engineer to look the situation over with respect to this. There seems to be no immediate demand for the relocating and widening of Lincoln Street and if the Town should so grow and traffic so increase that a broad outlet in the direction of Lincoln is needed, it would be less expensive and far to the advantage of the Town to develop a new I5ra7 through the meadow along lines al- ready laid out on 6hurtleff's plan rather than to widen and straighten Lincoln Street through the Cuchinotta property, The 'Town Engineer stated that he would have something to present on Vine Brook in two weeks. Mr. Duffy stated that the Boston Society of Engineers have an unemployment situation and have asked the members to con- tribute to a fund which will give work to engineers. They work Work For for state, cities and towns in making surveys such as traffic Unemployed studies and house studies. Fie stated that he didn't think the Town would have to contribute. He asked if the Board had any- Engineers thing in mind that was needed along this line. It was decided to have lur. Duffy find out more about the work. Er. Emery stated that the Planning Board would have some money left over at the end of the year and asked if there was any- thing needed. Yr. Cosgrove informed the Board that any extra money could be used to purchase air maps which cost $10.00 each and are 820.00 very useful$. It was unanimously voted to authorize 620.00 to be Town Eng - used by the Town Engineer to purchase two additional air maps. neer The meeting was adjourned at 16:00 P. k. Respectfully submitted, rJ Clerk I
