PLANNING BOARD MEETING
January 18, 1932
A meeting of the Planning Board was held in the Con-
ference Room of the Town Office Building, January 18, 1932,
at 8:00 P. M. Messrs. Emery, Scheibe, Duffy, Glynn, Milne,
and Cutler were present. Roland Greeley, Edward Ballard,
the Town Engineer and secretary were also present.
It was suggested at a previous meeting that these
two yound men who are studying landscape architecture , and
city planning, might be able to help the Board in suggestive
work as they are in closer touch with community and town
development than the Planning Board. Mr. Milne had in mind
the development of road construction which the State is con-
templating, namely, Lowell Street extended through to the
Bedford line in the northerly part of the Town and the road-
way from the Alewife Brook Boulevard to Concord Avenue . These
new streets will open several sections for development. Mr. Roland
Greeley &
Emery suggested planting trees along roadsides to beautify Edward
Ballard -
the Town and shrubs or creepers that would cover unsightly Outside Worl
banks where cuts have been made in various streets.
It was also stated that something should be started
on town forests. Pir. Cosgrove pointed out three places where
he would suggest town forests, namely: - 90 acres northwest
of Winter Street ; 155 acres easterly of Grove Street along Town
the Burlington line ; and 80 acres westerly of Wood Street Forests
along the Lincoln line between Marrett Street and the Bed-
ford line . When the young men have something to suggest on
these matters, they will attend a meeting and present it to
the Board.

40 Mr . Cosgrove presented plans of Sherman Street Ex-
tension showing also, I r. Quinn's plan of development. Mr.
Quinn has already started building one house and does not
approve of th proposed tom layout. It was suggested that
the Town should wait until the approved project could go
through and during that time abate the taxes on the land
owned by Mr. Quinn. When it is constructed, it must be cone
according to the layout approved by the Board of Survey. The
outside figure for damages and what would have to be done for
Mr. Buckley would be approximately ,2500 to $3000.00. If the
layout of the closed ended street were approved, it would
stop further development later on. In view of getting a
terminous at Vroburn Street, and a 9% grade, desire to help
Mr. Quinn, and hard times , we ought to reconsider our former Sherman
Street
approval . Extension
"Relative to the extension of Sherman Street through
to Oakland Street or to a ny construction within that portion
of the land of Mr. Quinn, the Planning Board, at the request
of the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, has given further
consideration to the matter and upon motion duly made and
secohded, voted to adhere to its recommendation as expressed
in the vote of October 3, 1930, heretofore communicated to
the Board of Selectmen.
In addition to the proviso incorporated in said vote
of October 3, 1930, it was also voted that a proper connection
be made between Sherman Street and Woburn Street and that a
Board of Survey layout be adopted with respect thereto, and
also with respect to the junction of Oakland Street extended
3.
0 through to Hancock Street so as to complete the entire project
in the layout . The proposed eytension of Sherman Street shown
on the Town Engineer 's sketch of October 1, 1930, being as the
Planning Board understands, substantially the same as shown
by the Board of Surve— layout dated May 5, 1931 ."
The meeting was adjourned at 11 .10 P. M.
Respectfully submitted,
Clerk
