SMITH HEARING r 8:15 - 8s3O Five appearing George F. ,math:- Stated that his father has owned.theY., property sixty or seventy years and has had a chance to sell if it is put into the business' zone,- Cantt sell it for a residence because of the business,-zone across the street. ,w z, John J. Brady:- Non-resident but owns property on Bedford Street and North iiancock Street. Stated that he thought'it would be better as a commercial district and give him a better chance to -sell. Vote:- 4 in favor of change`. A., ETHEL W. BEAN HEARING 8:30 - 9:04 13 Appearing, Frank B. Cu-Ibertson:-> Asked if it was going to bs,�used for' .: golf or for other' purposes.. Mr-. Chairman:- Answered that if the property was put .,e in the business zone, no restriction could be made on the use. Mr. Gately, _40 Court St.,Boston:-"Representing Mrs. Ethel W. Bean and Daniel J. O'Connell, stated that it was h'rz the owner's purpose to use the property for golf practice .as is being done now. 1 Said that the petitioner's 'purpose was to,help the children at her a ron�strin s 'p . Asthon:-Asked if there was any danger of it .being made` Into a bowling alley later. Mr. Chairman:- Stated that ,another hearing would have to be heldfor that* Neil McIntosh:- Stated that he didn't oppose the change if the golf balls would stay on the Bean land, but he thinks they will go on his property. If shots - could be directed another way, they could not reach his land. He has no objection as it is now. Petr. Bean: Stated that the lot was 900 feet wide where the balls were picked up, and he didn't think they, would go far enough` to hit -the 'Idclntosh land. Pir.;Pelton: Stated that they moved there next to the Bean` property away from the disturbances of the city and -rant the district kept residential. Vote:- 6 In favor of change 9 opposed. CATHERINE F4 HERBERT HEARING 9:05 - 9:20` 5 Appearing Mr. 'v7m'. P. Herbert Punts to develop it so it can pay the taxes .and have the town derive 'taxes from it. Bedros Bashian: Asked what they were going to use it for. Catherine Herbert:- Purpose is a filling station. Thinks one is needed at this place because there isn't one in that vicinity. `. Bedros-Bashian:- Stated that he opposed it because the Bluff Is a historical spot and should not be molested with a filling station. Also that the building of the new road would affect" It and thinks 'it -should wait -until the road has been completed.' h a#.' # 3� Planning Board, nearing July 21, 1930 I Herbert Hearing Continued Mr. Scheibe:- Stated that.:he didn't think,''it would be _ surrounded with Piot dog stands like the spot set aside for Paul Revere in Concord. Yrs, Herbert:- Stated that Lexington had so many.historical places that it could not afford to have them; all set aside as parks,' -it is impossible to do anything else with the land because the rest is either-too swampy or or too tocky. This is the only spot they have that can be developed. It is too noisy for a-f'esidential district anyway with 'the .nicks and cars on, the State Road, Nr. Bashian >stated that it should-not have a filling "station because it is historical but he has "a historical spot on hisland and is using it conmereially selling corn'and other'' vegetables. Toras h. Bashian:- Would like to know what kind of a:building was to be built and cost. Mr . N Y. Herbert:- Stated that whatever kind of a building it was, It would not be a detriment to the Town of _ Lexington. lac.
