BOARD OF HEALTH SPECIAL MEETING
november 26, 1985
A special meeting of the Board of Health was held November 26, 1985 at
7 00 p m. in Room G-15 of the Town Office Building Members present were
Mr James W Lambie, Chairman; Donald A. Goldmann, M D , Howard B Asarkof, DDS,
George A Smith, Jr , Health Director; and Sanitarian, Jacqueline H Selway
Sanitarian Introduction Mr Smith introduced Jacqueline H Selway to the
Board as the new department Sanitarian
After a brief introduction Jacqueline gave a brief report to the Board on
her activities since starting work on November 18, 1985
The Board reviewed a permit application from Seragen, Inc
The Board agreed that while it appeared there was some reason for concern
about this application and the scope of activity it did not seem appropriate
for the Board to act on it at this time
The Board agreed that the request by Seragen should be provided to the
newly appointed Biohazards Committee for their review and recommendations
This should be done as soon as the committee has an opportunity to meet, organize
and plan on a working agenda
VNA The Board briefly reviewed the current contract between the town and the
CONTRACT/ VNA for public health nursing services
SERVICES
DISCUSSION Review was also made of a document prepared by VNA Director Jane Tapia
relative to the types and level of services now being provided by the VNA and
those items for which are directly being billed
The Board agreed that because of some uncertainity about the welfare like
nature of some of the services being attended to by VNA that a new policy or
program direction should be undertaken
It is possible that we may have to eliminate the health promotion type
visits or possibly expand the scope of our program so that the entire Lexington
population has access to these types of services
497
The Board agreed that a survey of Lexington physicians should be undertaken
to see what levels or types of services that might be inclined to use or what
types and kinds of services that they might recommend that their patients partici-
pate in should they be made available
Dr Asarkof indicated that he would discuss this idea with several physicians
in town and report back to the Board at its next meeting
The Board then adjourned at 8 45 p m.
