HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-09-06391 BOARD OF HEALTH SPECIAL MEETING SEPTEMBER 6, 1983 A special meeting of the Board of Health was held Tuesday, September 6, 1983 at 3:00 p.m. in Room %-15 of the Town Office Building. Members present were: Mr. James W. Lambie, Chairman; Dr. Linda Roemer, David Henley, Superintendent of East Middlesex Mosquito Control, Deborah Halko, and George A. Smith, Director of Public Health. This meeting was called to discuss/update the mosquito situation. Mr. David Henley, Supt. of East Middlesex Mosquito Contorl, that there had been a report of a child (10 or 11 yrs. old) that was in Foxboro on vacation from New York that took ill. Encephalitis was suspected but not confirmed at the time. A horse from Bridgewater was reported as having EEE. Mr. Henley said that he has been checking the Green & White property, the Great Meadows and Holmes Road A lot of larvar has been found in the Rock Meadow section of Belmont and there has been distrubing results of mosquitoes in Littleton. Mr. Henley said that larvae has also been found in Bedford and that is an area that should be watched. He said Bedford has more larvae than Lexington. Mr. Henley said he would not suggest any townwide truck spraying at this time but he would suggest using a toto-mist near the schools or recreation area. He feels the Minute Man Vocational School yard area should be sprayed. Mr. Smith said Dr. Monderer is sending out memos to the schools suggesting that they not have any school field trips in any area where there is likely to be mosquitoes. The Board suggested to Mr. Smith that he write a letter to the school principals in regard to mosquitoes. If the principals feel that spraying or roto -mist is necessary, the Town will spray. Mr. Henley said the risk has been decreased but there is potential for it to be on the rise again. It was decided that larvaciding will continue until the water dries up and if their is no rain. All we need now is cool, dry weather. The danger -period for mosquitoes will end with the first frost.
