JANUARY 10, 1983
The regular meeting of the Board of Health was held January 10, 1983.
Members present were: Mr. James W. Lambie, Chairman; Dr. Michael S. Erdos,
Dr. Linda Roemer and Mr. George A. Smith, Director of Public Health.
The minutes of the December 13, 1982 meeting were approved as read.
Mr. Smith told the Board that Dr. Stanley Read, D.V.M. of Dr. Chabot's
Veterinary Hospital has requested to do the rabies clinic in May for the
1',oarc. of Health. Mr. Smith told the Board that Dr. Read had worked at
our clinic in past years and everything went well.
The Board agreed that Dr. Read could do the upcoming rabies clinic.
HAZARDOUS Mr. Smith told the Board that the League of Women Voters are talking and
WASTE DAY discussing the "hazardous waste" collection day and they feel this should
or could be an annual event. The Selectmen feel this is a worthwhile pro-
ject and are discussing ways to fund this event annually.
Mr. Smith told the Board that there had been another sewer overflow at
the Sheraton -Lexington Motor Inn. The alarm had gone off and someone
SEWER there shut it off but had forgotten to report it.
OVERFLOW
It has all been taken care of at this time.
Mr. Smith told the Board that he has hired a new weekend (assistant) dog
office, named Betsy White.

PROGRAM He also told the Board that he has turned the dog program over to Patti
Martin -Paul, Animal Control Officer and that she is "more -or -less" on her
own now.
Mr. Smith told the Board that the Selectmen turned down his request to
put signs up (re: fasten children's seat belts) on Town property. He said
the School Department will allow them to be put up on school property.
Mr. Smith told the Board that the Bora Bora Restaurant has gone out of
business and that there is a new restaurant going in at that address. The
restaurant will be named Arty's and will be a Greek food restaurant.
Dr. Erdos asked about the letter that Mr. Smith was to write in regard
to "non-smoking" areas in restaurants.
Mr. Smith said it is just about completed.
The Board met with Mr. David Henley, of the East Middlesex Mosquito Control,
to briefly discuss mosquito control as they had an 8:30 p.m. appointment
before the Board of Selectmen.
The Board of Health was going to request a $4,000.00 emergency fund to do
some larviciding to help control the mosquito population and they want to
start this program as soon as possible.

The Board of Health wants to request to rejoin the Mosquito Control Project
and also is requesting $9,500.00 to have a water management and surveillance
program in the Town because of the recent cases of encephalitis that had been
diagnosed in bordering towns. The Board feels that this is a very important
issue at this time.
