Dorothy Jones, Clerk 3/71 BOARD OF BIALTH PUBLIC HEARING - MARCH 16, 1971 A public hearing for the granting of a temporary Innkeepers License for an additional 6L units to be built at the Chalet Susse' Motel, 4L0 Bedford Street, Lexington, Mass., was held Tuesday. Larch 16, 1971, at 7:30 P.M. in the Board of Health Office. This hearing is it accordance with Chapter 140. Section 32B of the General Laws. Notice of this hearing was advertised in the local paper on March 11, 1971, es required by this law. Present at the hearing were: Dr. William L. Cosgrove. Chair- man. Board of Health. Mr. James Lambie, Dr. Charles Ellicott, Robert Heustis, Director of Public Health and Mr. Richard Kraska, Proprietor of the Chalet Susse'. Inc. None of the abuttors to the Chalet Susse' Inc., appeared in opposition to this request. The Chalet Susse', Inc., is located on Bedford Street and is serviced by the Pumping Station located on Brook Street. When the original. 60 units were built by Chalet Susse', Inc., a new force main had been installed at the Pumping Station and the additional flow had been handled by the Pumping Station. Dr. Cosgrove asked if John McSweeney, Town Engineer, had been contacted to see if the Pumping Station would take the additional flow from the additional units and restaurant without creating a public health problem. cr 004 1 1 1 1 1 Mr. Houstis said Mr. McSweeney hnd written a letter steting that two contracts had been awarded under a grant from: the Fed- eral Water Quality Administration and the State Division of Weter Pollution Control for construction of a relief sewer and alterations to the Brook Street Pumping Station. These altera- tions should handle the sewage based on population saturation and land use from this area. Dr. addition, date. Cosgrove asked when Mr. Kraska planned to open his new Mr. Kraska said he had set September 1, 1971 as a completion Dr. Cosgrove asked when construction would take place. Mr. Kraska replied as soon as possible, the bank was waiting until he had the Innkeepers license before releasing his money to start construction. Dr. Cosgrove instructed Mr. Heustis to find out what the completion date would be on the sewer construction work mentioned in Mr. McSweeney's letter. Mr. Kraska said he had talked to John McSweeney and had been assured that there was no problems. Dr. Cosgrove said the Board would like the assurance of Mr. McSweeney that the work at the Pumping Station would be completed by the time or at least at the same time the additional units at the Motel were ready for occupancy._ Mr. Kraska said he was very concerned about the problems at the Pumping Station when he learned of them, but he had no problems with sewage with the first 60 units and no drainage problems. Dr. Cosgrove explained that each Spring for a number of years there had been problems with the Pumping Station and this has been of great concern to the Board cf Health. The Board asked if Mr. Kraska had to do any more filing on the land. Mr. Kraska said "No", and he understood. that the State had stopped the filling of low lands along the Shawsheen r.5 ver.
