Mr. Heustis aaid he could plan to sample brooks and streams about every three months and also would use it for the swimming pools in the summer. The Board approved the purchase of this equipment if there was sufficient funds. Meeting adjourned at 10:30 P.M. BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING JANUARY 5, 1968 The regular meeting of the Board of Health was held Friday January 5, 1968 in the Selectmen's Room of the Town Office Building. Members present were: Dr. William Cosgrove, Acting Chairman, Dr. Charles Colburn, and Robert Heustis, Director of Public Health. Minutes of the December 1, 1967 meeting were approved as read. Dr. Colburn reported he had attended the Government Struc- ture Committee Meeting as the Board's representative on Thursday, January 4, 1968. Dr. Colburn reported to the Board that this proposal for change of Town Government will be on the Town Warrent this year. The Board briefly discussed the changes in the proposed government structure particularily the proposed set-up for Board appointments, which Dr. Colburn stated he objected to at this meeting. The letter from the Sheraton Motor Inn acknowledging an order for a hot water heater booster was read by the Board. Mr. Heustis reported he had made an inspection at the. Inn recently and the booster had arrived. Also the heating engineer for the Sheraton Hotel Corporation had been, out and inspected the present heater and made a small adjustment to the boiler and the water now, without the booster, was 170 degrees. The letter from Donald Legro, Town Counsel, regarding the sampling of milk was read by the Board. It was agreed by the Board that the method of sampling must be carefully carried out. As Mr. Legro stated in his letter although the methods of the Milk Regulation Board was impractable for regular use it would be wise in extreme cases to use both the regular sampling method and also the sampling method of the Milk Regulation Board. 65 The reply to Mrs. Anthony regarding the testing of Brooks WATER and streams in Lexington was read by the Board. Mr. Heustis TESTING stated in this letter that he hoped to set up a regular program for testing brooks and streams in the coming year. Mr. Heustis reported he had re -inspected at Bamboo Hut on BAMBOO the 15th of December and found everything in order. The SelectmeHUT were notified and issuance of the Common Victulars License approved by the Health 1epartment. The letters to Cumberland Farms Dairy, Blue Ribbon Dairy and MILK David Buttrick Dairy was read by the Board. COUNTS Mr. Heustis reported that Mr. Reni of Rieley Laboratories had called to say he would be sampling milk at the Cumberland Farms Lexington Stores to see if the problem of high counts could be cleared up. Mr. Martines of Blue Ribbon Dairy called to say, Mr. Marcus, the laboratory man employed by them, was checking their plant and operation to see if he could find the cause of the high counts. He also stated that Mr. Marcus did find two dirty lines in the milk operation process. Dr. Colburn asked if any of the Health Departments in the Towns where the pasteurization plant was located ever called or got in touch with Mr. Heustis to see if a solution to the high milk counts could be reached. Mr. Heustis said "No" but that a copy of the violations were sent to the Health Departments of the Towns where the bottling was done. Dr. Colburn said he wondered if a plant inspection by the Board and Mr. Heustis could be made at Blue Ribbon Dairy to see if there was anything they could do to help clear up the problem of the high counts. He suggested Mr. Heustis find out when the processing was going on and make arrangements for he and Mr.' Heustis to be there at that time. He said he thought personal contact might have more effect than a letter. Arrangements will be made as soon as possible for this visit. The letter from Pine Knoll Nursing Home listing the food FIRE -PINE - items destroyed in a small fire in the storage room and refrig-KNOLL NURS- erator on December 15, 1967 was read by the Board and placed ING HOME on file. The letter regarding an overflowing sanitary system on the 21 GLEN property owned by C. Russell Smallman, 21 Glen Road South was ROAD read by the Board. Mr. Heustis explained Mr. Smallman had been in to see him and a site inspection was made. The location and size of the lot would make it inadvisable to try to enlarge the system or do any further repair work. The public sewer is about 166 BAKERI, INC. AMICON CORP. W00DBRIDGE ESTATES 150 feet away on Grant Street but Glen Road is an unaccepted Street. Mr. Smallman has talked to the Town Engineer about extending the public sewer up Glen Road or obtaining an easement up from Grant Street but nothing definite has been decided as yet. Mr. Heustis said he had received a call from Mr. Robinson, 11 Grapevine Avenue, complaining about rats in the area. An inspection revealed a rat coming from the Robinson property over to the Bakeri. Mr. Kolvoson's attention was called to this situation. He told Mr. Heustis that he had Waltham Exterminating Co. carry out a regular rat control program. An inspection of the Bakeri was also made at this time and the violations were brought to Mr. Kolvoson's attention. Since this inspection a regular cleaning man has been hired and a cleaning program set up. A re -inspect -ion will be made at a later date, The Board of Selectmen were advised to issue the Common Victular's License on a conditional basis subject to the corrections required by the State Sanitary Code. The Board approved the request of Amicon Corporation, 25 Hartwell Avenue for a permit to purchase syringes for use in their laboratory. Mr. Heustis explained that Mr. Paul of Amicon Corp. called and stated that the syringes were used to measure small amounts of fluid in the laboratory, the syringes are purchased in amounts of 200 at a time and a close inventory and care in the disposal of the syringes is observed at all times. The fee for this permit will be 500 as stated in the General Laws of the Commonwealth. The subdivision entitled "Woodbridge Estates, Section 2" was approved by the Board subject to the conditions as stated in the Whitman & Howard, Engineer's report. This report states that all lots are approved with the exception of Lot 1, which is low and at the present time very wet. This subdivision will be on public sewer.
