The annual appointments for the year ending March 31,
1968 were made as follows :

BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
APRIL 3, 1967
The regular meeting of the Board of Health was
held Monday, April 3, 1967 at 7:00 P.M. in the Health
Department Office. Members present were : Mr. R.L. McQuillan,
Chairman and Mr. James M. West.
Minutes of the March 6, 1967 meeting were approved
as read.
Mr. West and Mr. McQuillan requested that the
Clerk, Mrs. Jones enter a vote of confidence from the
Board in the work she has carried on in the emergency
of the past 2 months.
Dr. Howard A. Smith, Veterinarian, 476 Bedford APPOINTMENT
Street was nominated Inspector of Animals to replace ANIMAL INSP.
Dr. Carl Benton. The Clerk was instructed to notify
the State Health Department, Division of Livestock
Control of this nomination and also to notify Dr. Smith
and Town Clerk, Miss Mary McDonough.

the changes in the 1967-Budget were noted by BUDGET
the Board. The car allowance of the Director was reduced
from X800. to $400. because it is expected that a Town
car will be provided by July 1st. The Clerk - Stenographer' s
position was reclassified from a S-5 to S-7. This reclass-
if ioation was done by the Selectmen to all Clerk - Steno-
s graphers in the Town employ.
The letter to Mrs. Joseph Hyatt, Hyattsville Maryland, 303
ordering her to correct the sewage situation at the dwelling CONCORD
owned by her at 303 Concord Avenue was approved by the AVENUE
Board. Mrs. Jones reported that Mrs. Hyatt had called
the Health Department and stated that she had instructed
Mrs. Silva, tenant, to call a contractor to have the
system repaired. Mrs. Jones said she had talked with
Mrs. Silva who will get estimates of the job from two or
three contractors and then let Mrs. Hyatt decide who
would do the job. Mrs. Jones said she realized that this
would hold up the correction of this problem for a few
days but the tenant did not want to take the responsibility
of hiring a contractor without the ownerâ–şs okay.
The preliminary subdivision plan entitled "Bowser BOWSER
Saddle Club Estates, Section III" was approved by the SADDLE CLUB
Board with the conditions as stated in the Whitman & ESTATES III
Howard Report.
The letter to Bryant Land Corporation regarding lots LOWELL
originally in the "Lowell Estates" subdivision was apnroved.ESTATES
Mrs. Jones explained that the President, H. R. Zeller, Jr. ,
of Bryant Land Corporation had been in to the Office and
also wrote a letter stating that certain lots that were
rejected in the original survey of the subdivision had
been filled in and he wanted these lots rechecked and
possible released for building.
Mr. Lucas of Whitman & Howard, Inc. went out to check
on these lots with new plans submitted by Mr. Zeller but
they did not include the lot grades in these plans so
Mu. Lucas could not approve or disapprove the lots in
question. Mr. Zeller was notified that lot grading plans
would have to be submitted before approval could be given.
The letter to Clifford Magee, owner of an apartment 703
at 703 Massachusetts Ave. was approved by the Board. MASS. AVE.
Mrs. Jones explained that the tenant called complaining
the landlord had turned off the water in the apartment.
Upon checking with the landlord it was found that the
plumbing in the basement was blocked and a plumber was
fixing it and that was why the water was turned off.
The letter to Mr. Magee cited regulations of the Sanitary
Code dealing with the owner' s resonsibility to provide
water for household use for tenants.
The Board again discussed the problem of Air Pollution AIR
and it was decided that laws would be drawn-up to help POLLUTION
control some of the outside burning in Town. Further study
will be done before these rules can be drawn-up.
