call Washington and tell them of the situation here and see if a
definite date could be set in order that a replacement can be
obtained.
The copy of the letter from Mrs, Mildred Groot to the PIGEON
Selectmen regarding the diseases from pigeons and also the NUISANCE
copy of the letter to Mrs. Groot from Mr. Alan Adams, Chair-
man of the Board of Selectmen, was discussed by the Board.
Included in Mrs. Groot's letter was a clipping from a
magazine stating the diseases which could be carried by pig-
eons. Mrs. Groot also pointed out the nuisance and danger
of the pigeons roosting in the center and she felt something
should be done about this.
After a short discussion the Board instructed Mr. Lurvey
to contact the State Health Department and see if they had
any suggestions as to what could be recommended to help abate
this nuisance.
Dr. Cosgrove explained that the dentists in Town had been USE OF
approached by the School Atheltic Department to offer their ser- DENTAL
vices for the purpose of fitting each High School Football Player CLINIC
with a mouth piece, the State Law states each player must have
a mouth piece for protection. By having the dentists donate
their time the cost of these mouth pieces can be kept at a min-
imum. Dr. Cosgrove said they had asked to use the Dental Clinic
for this work. This would be done at no expense to the Dental
Clinic. Dr. Bane or Dr. Manikas should be on duty at the time
this work is being done and also Mrs. Porter could be on duty
in order to help the volunteer dentists all she can.
The Board voted to let the dentists use•the Dental Clinic
for the purpose of making impressions of mouth pieces for
the high school football players.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
JUNE 26, 1962
The regular meeting of the Board of Health was held Thursday
evening, June 28, 1962, at 7:30 P.M. in the Board of Health Office
in the New Town Office Building. Members present were Mr. R. L.
McQuillan, Chairman, Dr. William Cosgrove, Mr. James M. West and
Health Officer, Mark D. Lurvey.
Mr. Lurvey told the Board he had received a phone call from MR. LURVE
Washington stating his appointment was definite and he was to re- APPOINT -
port to Rockville, Maryland on August 13, 1962. MEET
The clerk stated that on Wednesday, June 27, 1962, about
200 letters stating that the position of Executive Health Officer
for the Town of Lexington was to be filled went out to Registered
Sanitarians.

After a short discussion the Board voted toset aside
the evenings of Monday, July 9 and Thursday, July 12,to interview
applicants. Mr. McQuillan also instructed the clerk to
notify all applicants that the Board would like, prior to
their interview, a resume of education and experience, also
two or three references. He also stated that he would be.
available the week of July 2 for personal interviews with
applicants prior to their meeting with the full Board.
"CARRIAGE The letter from the Planning Board regarding the sub -
GROVE division entitled "Carriage Grove Estates" was read and
ESTATES" discussed by the Board.
Mr. Lurvey explained that the owner of this subdivision
had made re-application to the Planning Board but had not
made any changes in the new plans submitted and therefore
he felt he could only write the same letter as he wrote to
the Planning Board before.
The Board instructed Mr. Lurvey to write the same letter
as before in regard to this subdivision.
104 SIMMONDS The letter to Albert J. Cahoon, 104 Simmonds Road,
ROAD stating that a complaint of over -flowing sewage on his
property had been received. As public sewer is avail-
able Mr. Cahoon was instructed to make the necessary arr-
angements with the Public Works Department.
Mr. Lurvey said he had not heard a word from Mr. Cahoon
in regard to this problem. He did check with Public Works
and they stated that an estimate had been sent out on June
19, 1962 of $700. to connect this dwelling to the public
sewer. As of June 28, 1962 no word had been received by the
Public Worka Department from Mr. Cahoon.
As this is a definite public health nuisance Mr. Lurvey
asked permission from the Board to send an order to Mr.
Cahoon.
The Board voted and dully passed the motion that Mr.
Lurvey be granted permission to send Mr. Cahoon, 104 Simmonds
Road, an order to connect his dwelling to the public sewer.
POLIO The letter to the Board of Selectmen regarding the pay -
CLINIC ment of the bills for the.Oral Polio Clinic was approved by
the Board.

Mr. McQuillan reported he.had been instructed to pay
these bills out of our regular budget and then the Approp-
riation Committee will decide at a later date what account
this expense should come out of. When this is decided by
the Appropriation Committee a transfer to our regular account
will be made.
The letter to Mr. Neal W. Kidney, 926 Massachusetts AVORUe
stating the dog barking in their back yard was disturbing
the neighborhood was approved.

The application for a permit to keep a horse by Mrs. Kenneth ANIMAL
McIntire, 205 Wood Street, was brought before the Board. Mr. PERMIT
Lurvey reported that there was no objection from the abbuttors
and that all conditions were favorable.
The motion was made and seconded that permission be granted
to Mrs. Kenneth A. Maclntire, 205 Wood Street, to keep a horse.
The letter from the Boston Guild for the Hard of Hearing, MOBILE
Inc., confirming our request for the mobile unit in October was UNIT
read and placed on file.
The letter to John E. Moore, 34 Robin Hill Road, Arlington 15 BURROU-1
stating the corrections needed for the sewage disposal system GHS RD.
at 15 Burroughs Road was read and approved.
Mr. Lurvey said he had checked this system and all the
corrections have been made and the system approved.
The letter to Mr. Raymond Rafferzeder, Wigton Abbott Corp.
New Jersey, stating the permission of the Board of Health to
use transite pipe in the installation of the sanitary.system
at Kennicott Copper was approved.
The letter from the Planning Board stating Mr. Snow's
schedule until further notice was read and placed on file.
The letter to Lexington Doctors stating an adult Polio
Clinic was contemplated for the fall was approved. In this
letter. the Doctors were asked to reply favorable or unfavorable
All answers received ( about 100%) were favorable.
The copyof the letter to John Carroll, Superintendent
of Public Works, from Donald S. Ross, 9 Bridge Street was read
by the Board.
Mr. Lurvey reported that Mr. Ross has been having a great
deal of trouble, the ground just would not take the affluent.
There is noaction for the Board to take on this matter. Mr.
Carroll was very careful when an easement was required to con-
nect a house to public sewer.
The letter from Leon Sternfeld, M.D., Massachusetts Public
Health Department, stating that at present he did not know of
any eligible candidates for the position of Health Officer for
Lexington was read and placed on file.
The letter to Mrs. Alba Spinale, Secretary, Minute Man
Highland Association, stating that all areas reported by them
as rat harborages had been checked by the Health Officer was
approved.
The report from Whitman & Howard regarding the sanitary
system for the Jewish Temple to be built on Route 2 was read
by the Board. Mr. Lurvey reported this was a good high Lot.
