BOARD OF HEALTH
SPECIAL MEETING
JULY 17, 1958
DOCTORS IN EMERGENCY
A meeting was called by the Board of Health on Thursday,
July 17, 1958 at 8.30 P.M. in the Selectmen's Room, Town
Offices, to discuss the problem of contacting doctors quickly
in emergency cases. Doctors
Emergency.
Those attending the meeting were Chairman McQuillan and Call
Dr. Cosgrove of the board of Health, Selectmen Mrs. Morey and Service
Alan Adams, Police Chief Rycroft, and Doctors Lucas, Crumb,
Ellicott, Potter, Wells, Pious, and Bellinger.
After much discussion pro and con, it was brought ou that
Dr. Crumb has just been appointed Chairman of the Emergency
Doctors Call Committee. Dr. Crumb reported that he is working
out a list of doctors who will each serve'a day to keep the seven
days of the week covered. The number to call is LI -2-2500. This
number is now in the hands of the Police Department, the Fire
Department, and the telephone supervisor.
Many of the doctors present are using the local telephone
answering service, Mrs. O'Brien, 34 Homestead Street, V02-4603.
This has proved very satisfactory.
Mr. Adams, Board of Selectmen, suggested that the town should
be willing to pay for a central emergency medical service if the
doctors will line up the service. All agreed that a local service
would be much better.
It was arranged that this matter be brought up at the Board
of Health meeting on Friday, July 18. The two selectmen agreed
to go along with it if the plan could be worked out with Mrs. O'Brien.
This seemed to be the best answer to the problem.
