April 18, 1958
The April meeting of the Board of Health was held in the
new office on Friday, April 18, 1958, at 3 P.M., with Chairman
McQuillan, Dr. Cosgrove, Mr. Cole, and Mr. Lurvey present.
Mr. James Phillips, who was scheduled to appear before the
Board at 3.30 P.M., talked with Chairman McQuillan on April 17,
and said he would not be present. Just before the meeting
Mr. McQuillan visited Mrs. Phillips at her restaurant. Mrs.
Phillips claimed that the new sink would be installed, new
linoleum laid, and the ceiling and walls washed, within a week.
The Board discussed the problem lots on Lowell Street which
Mr. Fulton is interested in. These lots have been rejected by
both Mr. Lurvey and Mr. Kraynick, the engineer from Whitman &
Howard. The Board insists that Mr. Fulton have a registered
engineer present a workable plan for our Board and Engineer to
approve.
Mr. Lurvey reported that he had looked at some lots on
Lincoln Street, Weston Road, and Route 128, belonging to James
Corr, in connection with a letter from Mr. Donald Nickerson,
Chairman of the Board of Appeals. This is a question of sub-
dividing the lots. Mr. Lurvey rejected two lots.
Dr. Charles Mooney has registered a complaint of the boys'
shower room at the Senior High School. Mr. Lurvey investigated
and recommended to the School Nurse and Mr. Abel at the High
School that the shower and locker room floors in both girls and
boys rooms be cleaned daily and foot baths be dispensed with.
The Board asked that the principal, Mr. Warren, and the school
doctors and nurse be notified by letter.
A certified letter was sent to Mr. Paul Little, Old Billerica
Road, Bedford, notifying him that a license must be obtained from
the Health Department to transport garbage in Lexington.
Mr. William Brenchick appeared before the Board in connection
with his request for help with the hospital bill for his prema-
ture baby born on February 13, 1958. Mr. Brenchick reported
that the Blue Cross had taken care of the bulk of the bill, and
that he would not need aid.
The investigating committee of the Minute Man Highlands Cam-
munity Association has requested a meeting with the Board and
Mr. Potter of Potters Piggery. The Board will arrange a meeting
for Thursday, May 1, 7 P.M., in the Selectmen's Room, and will
notify the committee and Mr. Potter.
Mr. Lurvey requested an order be sent to Harold Allen, 257
Marrett Road, to correct the nuisance of an overflowing sewage
system. This was'so voted. Also that Mr. Stanley Gruber, 32
Peacock Farm Road, is working on his correction of an overflowing
sewage system.

inspected, and many complaints investigated
BenFranklin A certified letter is to be sent to the Benjamin Franklin
Eng.Bill Homes, Inc., asking them to remit the fee of 453.90 for engi-
neering done on the project at Peacock Farms, Section 2, or the
matter will be turned over to the Town Counsel. Notices were
sent on October 15 and on December 27, 1957, but no remittance
has been made.

Mr. Irwin, Building Inspector, came in to the meeting to ask
what facilities had been made for sewage disposal at the new Lex-
ington Inn which planned to open tomorrow, April 19. Mr. Lurvey
said that Mr. John Carroll, Assistant Superintendent of Public
'"orks, had contacted him, and said they had run into ledge, and
might not be able to make the connection in time for the opening.
Mr. Cole and Mr. Lurvey decided to go to the site and see what
can be done.
An application for a rubbish disposal permit by John J. Gardini,
Walpole, was approved by the Board. A letter is to be sent along
with the license stating that it is understood that only rubbish
collected in Lexington will be transported to the Lexington town
dump.
An application for a license to practice massage in Lexington
was made by Walter R. Lively, 6 Vernon Street, Woburn. The Board
asked that letters be sent to the two references given by Mr. Lively
and a decision would be made after the Board hears from these
references.
The Board approved and signed licenses for renewal of methyl
alcohol permits and two funeral director's permits.
The meeting adjourned at 4.30 P.M.
