BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
January 17, 1958
The Board of Health met in the new office on Friday, January 17, II
at 3 P.M. Chairman McQuillan, Dr. Cosgrove, Mr. Cole, and Mr. Lurvey
were present.
Mr. Lavell of the Bay State Tallow Company met with the Board to
discuss the subject of Lexington regulations pertaining to the trans-
porting of rendering material in Lexington. His trucks have been
observed without the propercanvas covering in use, and Mr. Lavell
wished to explain. The Board stated our regulations are estab-
lished for the good of all concerned, and must be complied with.
The annual reports for 1957 as submitted to the Board of Selectmen
were discussed. It was suggested that another year the number of
complaints and nuisances received and investigated by the Health
Department might be added to the reports. The Board is quite rroud
of the fact that the appropriation asked for in 1958 is less than
that requested in 1957.
The Health Officer's report for the month was discussed covering
complaints, nuisances, lots, septic tank and cesspool inspections,
milk samplesaanalyzed, food establishments inspected, etc.
Mr. Cole stated that hereafter he would like to give his decisions
on problem lots and installations for sewage disposal to Mr. Lurvey
directly. In some cases the men who have met with Mr. Cole on
problems have not followed his suggestions, so in the future
Mr. Cole will contact Mr. Lurvey, who will, in turn, give the
decisions to the people involved.
Two Child Care Licenses were signed after aprroval; Unitarian
Cooperative Nursery School and Miss Lothrop's Kindergarten.
A letter was read from Mr. Austin Fisher, Chairman of the Lex-
Jr.High ington School Building Committee, acknowledging the Board's letter
Remktelirg o thecommitteetelling of the meeting with Mr. Erickson, the archi-
tect connected with the remodelling plans for the Junior High School.
Mr. Fisherassures the Board that the School Committee is also aware
of the problem involving the Junior High kitchen, and they will
insist that proper conditions are attained.
Hos'pUtal Dr. Cosgrove reported that the Hospital Committee at its last
Committee meeting recommended that a tract of land be obtained now and ear-
marked for a future hospital for Lexington, perhaps when the 4.0,000
or 50,000 mark is reached for population.
The meeting adjourned at 4.45 P.M. The February meeting will be
on Friday, February 21, 1958.
