HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-04-20270 BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING April 20, 1956 A regular meeting of the Board of Health was held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Offices, on Friday, April 20, 1956, with Chairman McQuillan, Mr. Cole, and Mr. Lurvey present. The meeting was delayed from 3 to 3.30 P.M. because the Health Office was swamped with telephone calls, parents signing up for the second order of polio vaccine, and doctors picking up their allotted vaccine. Mr. Peckham, chairman of the new Methodist Church Com - Methodist mittee, and Mr. Custance, the builder, met with the Board Church at 3.45 P.M. to discuss a solution of the sewerage plan for the church. Mr. Cole recommended asking Whitman & Howard, the engineers, to make a study and suggest a plan. State approval must be secured, too. A safe solution, but more expensive, would be to run in the other direction. There will be sewer for the property, probably, in the next two years, and the present ejector pump could be connected to the swwer then. The Board moved to reconsider the subject, and to have Whitman & Howard make a study. Mr. Lurvey reported that the Polio Inoculation Program Polio is progressing nicely. Three of the nine Lexington schools Program have had their clinics, and two Public Clinics for Pre - School and Private School children have been held. After vacation week a school a day will be done thru April 30, and with a Public Clinic on Saturday, April 21, all first inoculations will be given. Make -Up Clinics will be held for absentees after the last school clinic. Dr. Newell asked to be replaced on the Polio Advisory Committee, and Dr. Pearlman was appointed. Chairman McQuillan asked the clerk to notify the Lex- LVNA ington Visiting Nurses Association of the new appropriation for 1956, an increase of $350. from $1750. to $2100. Nothing has been heard from Mrs. Alice Shannon who was given until May 1 to connect her house to the town sewer. Mr. Lurvey reported that Mr. Joseph Kelly, 45 Earle 45 Earle Street, is making progress in getting his property in order Street as the Board asked. Miss Pellagrini from the State met with Mr. Lurvey to discuss the question of rehabilitation of the nephew. Licenses Mr. McQuillan asked if May 11 would be convenient for the May Board meeting as he will be away the remaining Fridays. 25 applications for Methyl Alcohol Licenses for 1956-57 have been received, and were approved by the Boa.rd.fpplica tions for Animal Permits are coming in. Renewals were ap- proved by the Board - new applications will be approved by Mr. Lurvey first, and approved by the Board later. 0.4 1 1 'Polio Program 1 271 Mr. McQuillan suggested that all bills and fees for the Polio Program for materials and help be presented to the Polio Board at the May meeting after the first inoculations are Program all completed. The special appropriation figure of $2500 is hoped to be ample. The Board voted to approve transportation fees to Middle- sex County Sanatorium for Mrs. Catherine Sachetti, a new T.B. tuberculosis patient. Case No objection has been raised by Mr. Thomas C. Webster of Webste7 189 Burlington Street since he was notified that he was not Prema eligible for financial aid from Lexington for the premature ture baby born on February 2, 1956. Two-fifths of the expense Propel of purchasing the property could be secured from the govern- ment, reducing the expense to the town to the remainder. With Lexington growing at such a pace, it might be well to plan a Center with all health units in one central place. The meeting adjourned at 4.50 P.M. Clerk
