HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-07-20 BOARD OF HEALTH MtE1'ING 125 July 20, 1951 A regular meeting of the Board of Health was held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, on Friday July 20 1951 at 3:00 P.M. Chairman Cosgrove, Mr. McQuillan, Mr. Jackson, Sanitarian, and the Agent were present. Application was received from Robert J. Hulk, 16 Burlington Street, for renewal of permit to Bulk keep two swine. swine Upon motion duly made and seconded it was permit voted to renew the permit. Application was received from Joseph L. Gallini, 34 Middleby Road, for a permit to keep 100oultry. He had a permit in 1949 to keep six �(6), but did not apply for renewal in 1950. Mr. Jackson reported that Mr. Lowe, the Gallini nearest neighbor who lives about 50 yards away poultry does not object. Permit for 50 was approved. permit (On Saturday, July 21, 1951, Mr. Crandall and another neighbor discussed this with Mr. Jackson and registered definite objection to more than sixteen poultry being kept at this address. Permit changed to read 16. ) Application was received from Anthoney Lertine for a permit to keep 800 poultry at 404 Bedford Street. Mr. Jackson explained that the applicant rents the land from a Mr. Saunders who built the poultry plant during the war. He stated that the nearest neighbor, about 50 yards away, objected to the odor and Mr. Lertine said that he would do Lertine everything possible to keep the place clean and the poultry odor down. He has been operating for three years permit and was not aware of the fact that he should have a permit. Mr. Jackson said that this poultry plant is Mr. Lertine's livelihood. A permit to keep 800 poultry was granted with the proviso that if complaints are received, the Board may have to revoke it. Application was received from Bennis Welch for permission to keep 10 poultry at 28 Winter Weleh Street. The neighbors have no objections and, poultry therefore, the permit was granted. permit Application was received from Robert B. Sharkey, 9 Hazel Road, for a permit to keep 8 Shakey ducks. The neighbors have no objections, and permit the permit was granted. 126 Application was received from John A. MacDonald MacDonald, 342 Bedford Street, to keep 7,000 permit broilers and 2 goats. At the present time Mr. MacDonald has a permit to keep 3,000 poultry. The Board was not in favor of the proposed increase and voted to grant a permit for 3,000 poultry only, and not to approve keeping of goats. Application was received from L. J. Foss, 1734 Massachusetts Avenue for a license to manufacture Ice Cream ice cream. permit Mr. Jackson reported that the applicant already has a freezer that makes 21 gallons at a time, but personally he thought improvements should be made insofar as cleanliness is concerned before a license is granted. The Board decided to deny the application until such time as the store is brought up to sanitary standards satisfactory to Mr. Jackson. Application was received from Five Forks Dairy Ice Cream Bar, 271 Lincoln Street, for a license to manufacture permit ice cream. Upon Mr. Jackson's recommendation the Board voted to grant the license. Application was received from George and Sam Morey Morey for the renewal of a permit to keep 2 sheep permit and 2 lambs. The neighbors have no objections and the permit was granted. The Meeting adjourned at 4:00 P.M. The next regular meeting of the Board will be held on Friday, September 7, 19.51, at 3 :00 P.M.
