Mr. Lamont's report on restaurant inspections
was reviewed and accepted.
Mr. Lament's monthly report as Health Inspector
was reviewed and accepted.
The Chairman read a letter from the Board of
Selectmen requesting a general report relative to
the proposed sewer mains for Fair Oaks, Farmerest
and Bow Street. Funds for these projects are pro-
vided for in the 1949 budget and will be acted
on at the Adjourned Town Meeting to be held on Mon-
day, March 21, 1949.
The Health Inspector informed the Board that
he has had no complaints from the Fair Oaks section,
but there are one or two bad conditions in the Farm -
Crest, area. He stated the conditions in the Bow
Street area are, and have been for some time,
very bad.
The Chairman read a letter from Donald E.
Faulkner registering a complaint about excessive
water which he alleges to be unhealthy. The Board
decided to discuss this with the Suptt. of Public
Works at a meeting on April 4, 1949, and the
Agent was instructed to so advise Mr. Faulkner.
A letter was received from the Board of Select-
ment;?which was attached an application, received by
the Selectmen from John J. Doheney, for the position
of Health Sanitarian. The letter stated that the
Selectmen are uncertain as to whether the Sanitarian

should be appointed by the Board of Health inas-
much as this is a new position in the town. The
Board of Health felt that this is not a new position
and that it is within the Board's power to make
the appointment.
The Agent was instructed to make an appoint-
ment for Mr. Doheney to meet with the Board in
the Selectmen's Office on Monday evening, April
4th at seven thirty.
A letter was received from Dr. Kelley, Dis-
trict Health Officer, relative to Mrs. Alice
Sullivan's Home for Aged at 47 Lincoln Street.
Until such time as favorable reports are received
from the local fire, wire and zoning departments,
the Board ofH!ialth and the Massachusetts Depart-
ment of public Safety, no license will be issued
by the State. Dr. Kelley stated in his letter
that Mrs. Sullivan is at present operating under
a temporary application.
The Board voted to deny Mrs. Sullivan's
application. The decision was made after the Board
reviewed conditions of the premises which, in its
opinion, are not suitable from a health view-
point for the maintenance of such a bane.
A form was received from the Department of
Agriculture relative to the nomination of an In-
spector of Animals.
Motion was made and seconded, and it was
of du/7 voted that Dr. John J. Murphy, 2218 Massa-
chusetts Avenue, Cambridge, (the present Inspector)
be nominated as Inspector of Animals.
A form was received from the State Depart-
ment of public Health relative to the nomination
of a Slaughter Inspector. The Agent was inbtr-
ucted to advise the Department that the Board of
Health is contemplaing the employment of a full-
time trained Health Sanitarian who will, subject
to the State's approval assume the duties now per-
formed by a part-time Slaughter Inspector. Pend-
ing action on the budget by Town Meeting, the
Board nominated Richard R. Wiggins, (present In-
spector) Slaughter Inspector to serve until such
time as a full-time Sanitarian is appointed.

A list was received from the Dppartment
of Public Works giving the names of 188 property
owners who have not connected with the Manor
Sewer System. Approximately 135 individuals have
connected. The Board will discuss this subject
with the Town Counsel and the Superintendent of
Public Works on Monday, April 4, 1949.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was
voted to make the following appointments, for
terms expiring March 31, 1950;
