BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
July 16, 1948
A regular meeting of the Board of Health
was held in the Selectments Room on Friday after-
noon, July 16, 1948 at 3:00 p.m. Chairman McQuillan,
Messrs. Terhune and Lamont were present. The Clerk
was also present. Members of the Board were notified
of the meeting by postal card.
Mr. W. C. Aageson, milk analysist, met with the
Board at the Boardts invitation. He explained the groups
of bacteria which produce disease and which are killed
off by heat. He also explained about another group
pertaining to food bacteria and a group largely associated
with equipment; that is pails, machines, cans, etc.
Mr. Aageson informed the Board that the lower count
found will indicate that better care has been taken
by the producer or dairy.
The Chairman asked if when a company contin-
uously has a high count, would the Board be correct
in assuming that there might he some uncleanliness
in handling of equipment.
Mr. Aageson replied that the dairy itself might
be clean but have a supply that is not clean. He said
that in such cases the dairy selling the milk should
trace back to determine what causes the high count, and
when a dairy continues to have a high count, it should
be checked. According to Mr. Aageson, disease is all
killed by pasteurization.
The Chairman asked if Mr. Aageson thought the
Board of Health should check on dairies having a
high count and he said that the Board positively
should.
The possibility of having the reports of every
analysis published in the local paper was discussed.
Mr. Aageson said that personally he does not think
it would be fair to the dairy, because the average
individual does not understand a milk analysis and
could be unduly concerned.
Mr. Aageson retired at 3:27 p.m.
on June 7, 1948 a letterwas written to Mrs.

for a Slaughter House and Slaughter License. Mr.
Mindick intends to operate the slaughter house at

The Clerk was instructed to advise Mr. Mindick
that his applications have been denied. The Board,
realizing that there is now a license in effect at
this address issued to Monsignore, felt that there
is no need of issuing a further license.
Mr. Lamont reported that the cesspool on the
property at 49 Lincoln Street, owned by Harold
Conant, has been overflowing for some time con-
stituting a health menace.
The Clerk was instructed to advise Mr. Conant

request to abate this nuisance immediately action
may be taken to force him to eliminate the present
