Public Comments:
• None
Approval of Meeting Minutes:The April 2018 minutes were approved with minor corrections
Guest Speakers: Koren Stembridge, Director and Emily Smith, Assistant Director of Cary Memorial Library
Soliciting community/COA feedback for the strategic plan and mission for the library
• Some overlap of library and Community Center activities
• Current library services available:
o Children's programs free of technology until Grade 3
o Teen space and programs
o Door to door home delivery of books, media
o Technology training for streaming media, books
o Converter rental available to convert tapes to CDs
o Free Xeroxing of up to 10 pages
Suggestions from COA and Human Services staff
• Survey community residents re: wishes for library
• Hold a meet and greet
• Involve library with Age Friendly initiative
• Hold a COA meeting at the library
• Explore concierge pick up of reserved materials
• Have annual conversation between library and COA
• Publicize library services through Colonial Times, Minuteman, Sage
Staff Reports:
Hemali Shah (Senior Services)
• Bone Health program May 10 10AM requires sign up
• The Friends of the Council on Aging are planning an early evening (5-713M) garden party as a fundraiser on June 29.
Cost will be$20. It will include a silent auction and raffles.
Melissa Interess (Senior Services)
• Updating marketing materials including senior resource guide, brochures
Charlotte Rodgers (Human Services)
• Significant increase in casework(see April minutes)
• New director of Youth Services Anthony Serio
• Alicia Grunes will return in July from her maternity leave
• Dana Home grant awarded for:
o mobile computer lab, a "lab on wheels' with laptops,tablets available to provide device-specific instruction
to seniors
o Pilot caregiver outreach program enabled with technology for homebound caregivers
o $12,500 awarded for senior outreach programs in health, nutrition, and transportation
• Meet and Greet before June 6 COA meeting at 1:30 will honor COA board members who have recently retired
Christine Dean (Community Center)
• Registration for summer programs opening 5/7 for adult and senior programs
• $5,000 grant for financial aid for senior health and fitness programs
• Lexington Field and Garden Club is contributing to maintain the property grounds
Liaison Reports:
Community Center Program Advisory
• Nancy Adler reports that proposal for exploring feasibility of expansion of Community Center rejected at Town
Meeting; too many costly town projects at this time
Transportation Committee
• Charlotte reported on discussion to increase cost of in-town taxi voucher from $3 to $5 due to popularity of program
• Transportation panel held as part of Comprehensive Plan;The Ride is now piloting Uber and Lyft as alternative
options to the pooled van system for riders who don't need a wheelchair van
• Seniors need to know how to use phone app for Uber/Lyft
FCOA
• Sophia announced Garden Party event scheduled for June 29 5-7PM with $20 cover fee—wine, apps, live band,
raffles
Disability Commission
• Bonnie reported discussion about parking in the Center and more discussion about concerns raised about how
disabled and minority students are disciplined in the schools
Recreation Department
• A group calling itself COA Senior Golfers raised $1200 to place a bench at the 4t"tee on golf course. Ellen will reach
out to them to clarify confusion about their name.
• Pool will reopen 6/2 with a celebration on 6/16.
Lexington Housing Authority
• Camille Goodwin reported updates on repairs and that winter snow removal was over budget.
Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee
• Aaron Henry, Planning Director, is leaving,which is a big loss
• 6 regional panel discussions (transportation, housing, economic issues) all available online at

New Business
• Annual Goal Setting for Selectmen discussion of need for big picture, general goals for COA
o Age Friendly to stay on the list
o Charlotte and Melissa will work on crafting draft goals; Camille and Rich will work on ideas for housing goals
• FCOA/Bright Ideas Liaison—Ellen Cameron will be temporary liaison and will attend Bright Ideas meeting.
