HomeMy WebLinkAbout1947-01-04170 SELECTMEN'S MEETING January 4, 1947 A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was hell in the Selectmen's Room on Saturday afternoon, January 4, 1947 at 2:00 p.m. Chairman Potter, Messrs. Locke, Rowse, Sarano and Paxton were present. The Clerk was also present. At 2:00 p.m. Chief John W. Rycroft appeared before the Board and budgets for his department were considered. Upon motion of Mr. Paxton, seconded by Mr. Sarano it was voted to authorize the Chief of Police to sell, at the present time, the 1942 Chevrolet Master 2 -door sedan, and the allowance is to apply towards the purchase of a new car if the money is made available at the annual Town Meeting in March. Chief Rycroft retired_:at 2:35 p.m. and Mr. John J. Garrity, Supt.of Parks and Playgrounds appeared before the Board. Budgets submitted by Mr. Garrity were discussed and he retired at 3:20 p.m. Mr. Joseph H. DeFoe, Supt. of Public Works appeared and budgets under his jurisdiction were discussed at length. Mr. Paxton suggested that theclerks in the Public Works Department, with the exception of the clerk in the Water Department be carried in one personal serviced budget. Mr. DeFoe agreed that this was a constructive suggestion. Mr. Paxton also suggested that the Chapter 90 budget be included in Highway Maintenance, and not have a separate article in the warrant for Chapter 90. Removing snow from in front of business establishments and gasoline stations was condidered. The Board authorized the Supt. of Public Works to have snow removed from gasoline stations and garages only at the corner of, Woburn Street and Fletcher Avenue, Massachusetts avenue and Bedford Street. Account Budgets were acted upon as follows: Requested Approved Town Offices & Cary Memo. Bldg. -Personal Services 1 1 1 Account Requested Approved Mr. DeFoe, Supt. of Public Works, discussed this budget with the Board and presented a revised figure of $1,500 for a second assistant janitor. He does not anticipate employing one for this position until later on in the year. The Selectmen voted to approve the revised budget in the total amount of $6,242.00. Town Offices & Cary Memo.
