SELECTMEN'S MEETING
September 24, 1945.
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held
in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, on Monday
evening, September 24, 1945, at 7:30 p.m. The members were
notified of this meeting by a notice mailed on September
22, 1945. Messrs. Potter, Sheldon and Sarano were present.
The Clerk was also present. In the absence of Mr. Locke,
Mr. Potter served as Chairman.
At 7:30 p.m. Colonel Barry appeared before the Board.
He stated that Mr. John J. Garrity, Supt. of Parks
and Playgrounds, had expressed a desire to install two
street lights at the playground, between the end of Clarke
Street and the grandstand.
Mr. Sarano moved that'Colonel Barry be authorized to
request the installation of two street lights on the -play-
ground road, between Clarke Street and the grandstand, to
complete the present circuit. Mr. Sheldon seconded the
motion, and it was so voted.
Colonel Barry said that he had received a Verbal request
from James Graziano, 42 Paul Revere Road, to hire Town
Equipment to open up and scrape the road so that the circuit
will be completed from Massachusetts Avenue to Cedar Street.
A Mr. Harvey, who lives on Paul Revere Road, has erected
a wall blocking up a portion of the street which cannot now
be used.
The Chairman requested Colonel Barry to cheek Mr.
Harvey's reaction before granting the request.
Colonel Barry informed the Board that there is a leak
in the boiler in Cary Memorial Hall which can bewelded, but
may possibly have to be torn down. He said that the American
Radiator Company who manufactured the boiler is unable to
repair it as they have no help. The only other concern who
would submit a bid was the R. E. Andrews Company of Brighton.
It will cost $125.00 to repair the leak.
Mr. Sarano moved that Colonel Barry be authorized to
have the leak in the boiler repaired at a cost not to exceed
$125.00. Mr. Sheldon seconded the motion, and it was so
voted.
Colonel Barry informed the Board that Colonel Ross
would like to rent the bulldozer to fill in the open cellar
holes on his property.
Mr. Sarano moved that Colonel Barry be authorized to
rent the.bulldozer to Colonel Ross in order that he may fill
in certain open excavations on the Ross property. Mr. Sheldon
seconded the motion, and it was so voted.

Colonel Barry stated that there are four large V -plows,
purchased in November, 1940 at a cost of $300.00 each, and
only one has ever been used. He said that the other three
have been out in the open for five years; and are badly in
need of painting. He asked whether or not any of the plows
should- be disposed of.
The Board felt, however, that the plows should be cleaned,
painted, put under cover and retained by the Town.
Colonel Barry retired at 7:45 p.m.

Brooks Avenue, Arlington, offering $400.00 for Lots 40 and
41, Block 22, DexterTRoad, Lexington.
The offer was referred to Mr. Potter for a report.

A letter was received from Alfred R. Batstone, 49
Bartlett Avenue, Lexington, offering $26.00 for Lots 86-
89 inc., Bartlett Avenue, Lexington.
A previous offer had been received for these same lots
from Mr. John MacMillan of (Nest Somerville, Mass., who was
advised that an offer of $300.00 would be entertained.
The Clerk was instructed to write Mr. Batstone that the
Board of Selectmen could not consider -an offer as low as
$26.00.
The Board gave further consideration to Mrs. Thomas E.
Hamilton's offer of $350.00 for Lots 627, 628, Freemont
Street; 607-616 inc., Homestead Street; and Lots 655-659 inc
Homestead Street, Lexington.
A proposal to sell these lots was advertised in the
September 20, 1945 issue of the Lexington Minute -Man. No
persons contacted the Selectmen's Office. as a result of the
advertisement.
Mr. Sheldon moved that the offer be accepted, and that
the lots be sold and conveyed to Mrs. Hamilton. Mr. Sarano
seconded the motion, and it was so voted.
An offer of $150.00 for Lets 4-6 inc., Sullivan Street,
received from Sabatino Iodice was held over until the next
meeting of the -Board; said meeting being this evening.
An offer of $160.00 was also received from Mrs. C. B.
Wildes, 74 Winter Street, for these same lots.
Mr. Sheldon moved that a proposal to sell the lots be
advertised in the Lexington Minute -Man, and that further
consideration be given the offers at the next meeting of
the Beard.
• The Board gave further consideration to Mr. F. A.
Currier's offer of $500.00 for Lots 7 and 8A, Tower Road,
Lexington.
A proposal to sell these lots was advertised in the
September 20, 1945 issue of the Lexington Minute -Man.
An offer of $550.00 was also received for these same
lots from George H. and Marjorie E. Sweet, 12 Independence
Avenue, Lexington.

Lots 7 and 8A, Tower Road, Lexington, be sold and
to George H. and Marjorie E. Sweet. Mr. Sheldon
the motion, and it was so voted.
The Board gave further consideration to Mrs. John
Demasots offer of $225.00 for Lots 15 and 16, Block 23,
Dexter Road, Lexington.
A proposal to sell these lots was advertised in the
September 20, 1945 issue of the Lexington Minute -Man.
An offer of $250.00 was received for these same lots
from Joseph J. Napoli, 55 Gleason Road.
A third offer in the amount of $265.00 was received
from Mrs. Ida Fitzgerald, 5 Parker Street, Lexington.
Mr. Sarano moved that the highest offer be accepted and
that Lots 15 and 16, Block 23, Dexter Road, be sold and
conveyed to Mrs. Ida Fitzgerald. Mr. Sheldon seconded the
motion, and it was so voted.
A letter was received from Mrs. Flora Myers, 65 Bridge
Street, Lexington, offering $100.00 for Lot 160, Farmhurst,
Section. 4, Bridge Street, Lexington.
Mr. Sheldon.moved that Mrs. Myers be advised that the
Board of Selectmen will entertain an offer of not less than
$150.00 for this lot. Mr. Sarano seconded the motion,. and
it was so voted.
A letter was received from P.F.C. Anthony D. Gigante,
56$ Berkshire Street, Cambridge, offering $150.00 for Lots
129, 130 and 131 on Tarbell Avenue, Lexington.
Mr. Sarano moved that P. F. C. Gigante be advised that
the Board of Selectmen will entertain an offer of not less
than $250.00 for these lots. Mr. Sheldon seconded the
motion, and it was so voted.
A letter was received from J. P. Waddleton, 11 Norton
Road, Lexington, offering $125.00 for Lots 92 and 93, Brandon
.Street, Lexington.
Mr. Sarano moved that Mr. Waddleton be informed that the
Board of Selectmen will entertain an offer of not less than
$225.00 for four lots, 90$:911 92, and 93, Brandon Street.
Mr. Sheldon seconded the motion, and it was so voted. '
A letter was received from T. A. Galbraith, 178,Waltham
Street, Lexington, offering $200.00 each for Lots 76 and 77,
Waltham Street, Lexington.
The offer was referred to Mr. Potter for a report.
Letter was received from Mr. Raymond L. White, Secretary,
advising that the Appropriation Committee had voted to trans-
fer the sum of $1,100.00 from the Reserve Fund to the Public
Works Building - Wages-& Expenses Account to make repairs in
the Sprinkler System. The Appropriation Committee further voted
to transfer the sum of $95.05 from the. Reserve Fund to the
Printing Town Reports Account. This amount is to cover the
cost of printing 100 copies of the school report and 100 copies

of the Town Accountant's report.
A letter was received from John A. Russell, Dog Officer,
informing the Board that he has used the amount appropriated
for the Dog Officer's - Expense Account. Officer Russell
requested a transfer in the amount. of450.00 for the remaind-
er of the year.
Mr. Sheldon moved that the Appropriation Committee be
requested to transfer the sum of $50.00 from the Reserve Fund
to the Dog Officer's - Expense Account. Mr. Sarano seconded
the motion, and it was so voted.

A letter was received from Mr. James J. Carroll, Town
Treasurer, together with a deed furnished by Mr. S. R. Wright-
ington,Town Counsel, with instructions to obtain the signatures
of the Board of Selectmen.

The Clerk informed the Board that Mrs. Webster
Thomas had requested the use of six tables and sixteen

The Board had no objections.
The deeds to Lots 32 and 33, Block 22,, Dexter Road;
Lots 90-94, Albermarle Avenue; and Lot 101, Hilltop
Avenue, having been prepared by Mr. Wrightington, Town
Counsel, were signed by the Board.
