A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the Selectmen' s Room, town Office Building, on Monday evening, October 9, 1944 at 7 :30 P.M. Chairman Locke, Messrs . Potter and Sarano were present . The Clerk was also present. The members were notified of this meeting by a notice mailed October 4, 1944. At 7 :30 P.M. Mr. Paxton appeared before the Board. Street He stated that he had received information from the Boston Lights Edison Company advising that the restrictions on street lights have been greatly relaxed and it is possible, under some conditions , to have street lights installed. Be said that he would check the requests which ha\-e been received for street lights and write the Boston Edison Company relative to those street lights which would not require a Town Vote. He retired at 7 :40 P.M. The Chairman read a letter from Mr. Wrightington, Leary Tree Town Counsel, stating that ie had notified Mrs. Bridget Claim Leary that the Town is not liable for damages resulting Legal Op. from the hurricane. This is in reply to an alleged claim for damages coused by. the falling of a tree on her 'house at 16 Muzzey Street, Lexington, during the hurricane . The Chairman read a letter from 14r. Wrightington stating that the Selectmen have ^egularly appointed their own Clerk since 14arch, 1926. Mr. Wtightington said that Lsa1 0 . in hiss opinion this conforms to G.L. Chapter 66, Section 6;g p and the practice should be continued, '"r. Wrightingtondleok Bd. of has talked with 1''1r. Carroll, Town Clerk, and has also written him on the matter ad he believs that he is now Selectmen satisfied that the practice is appropriate. He further stated that the vote of the Town on April 15, 1913, adjusting the salary of the Town Clerk whereby he was also to act as Clerk of the Board of Selectmen was invalid because of the provisions of the Statute which was in force at that time. Mr. Wrightington believes that it is not necessary to revoke the vote. The Chairman read a letter from the Probation Officer Restit'ns of the District Court of Central Middlesex enclosing Windows a check in the amount of $20.00 for restitution collected Broken for damage done to the Barnes Property. Robert Moniz and Barnes Charles Casella were before the court on a delinquency Prop. complaint and their case continued until December 2, 1944 without a finding. 1 i 590 .4 The Chairman read a letter from iorrest Knapp Tax stating that he is still interested in purchasing Lot 191, Title Middle Street, for which the Board is asking the sum of Offer $200.00 Mr. Knapp stated that he is in a position to Pay $100.00 down and the balance of $100.00 within six months . Mr . Potter moved that a proposal to sell Lot 191, Middle Street, Lexington, be advertised in the Lexington ° Minute-Man, and that further consideration be given the offer at the next meeting of the Board. Mr. Sarano seconded the motion, and it was so voted. A letter was received from John R. Marques, 52 Menotomy Road, Arlingtonoffering the sum of $300.00 for Lot 9A, Tower Road, Lexington. Held It was decided to have Mr. Potter investigate this Over particular lot, and the offer was held over until the next meeting of the Board. The Chairman read a letter from Melville W. Webb, Chairman of the Lexington Committee on Public Safety, stating that the Committee had voted to remove some of the excess telephones in the Report Center . He further stated that the k.xecutive Committee would not disband Disband until they had been so advised the iloard of Selectmen. Com. on Mr . Sarano moved that the Lexington Committee on Public Public Safety be disbanded and an expression of gratitude Safety be extended to the men and women who have served on the various committees. '4r. Potter seconded the motion, and it was so voted. The Chariman read a letter from Crete1en Reed, 40 Wachusett Drive, requesting the use of Estabrook Hall on Use of Friday evening, October 27, 1944 for a meetingoof the Hall Denied League of Women Voters. League The board felt that some question might well be Women raised as to the use of the building; for this purpose Voters coming as its does so near election time. Mr. Sarano moved that the use of the hall be denied. Mr. Potter seconded the motion, and it was so voted. Application was received from the Lexington Chamber of Commerce for the use of Extabrook Hall on the evening Chamber of October 26, 1944 from 7:30 P.M. until 10:30 P.M. ommerce for a business meeting and lecture. Use of Mr. Potter moved that the use of the hall be Hall granted, free of charge. Mr. Sarano seconded the motion, and it was so voted Application was received from the War Parents of America, Inc. , Chapter Number #1, for the use of Zatabrook II War Parents Hall on Friday evening, October 26, 1944, from 8:00P.M. Use of Hall until 10:30 P.M. for a regular meeting. 591 Mr . Morse appeared before the Board and was advised by the Chairman of the Board that a request had previously been received for the use of Estabrook Hall on that evening. Mr. Morse, therefore, changed his request to Friday evening, October 27th. Mr. Potter moved that the use of the hall be granted, free of charge. Mr. Sarano seconded the motion, and it was so voted. The Chairman informed the 3oard that Miss Ormond Use of of the Rationing Board had requested the use of the Selectmen's Selectmen' s Room on the afternoon of Friday, October 13, Room 1944 from 1 :30 P.M. until 4:30 P.M. for a Regional O.P.A. Meeting. O.P.A. The Board had no objection to the room being used for thy* purpose. The Clerk informed the 3oard th t it had been the Close custom to close the Town Offices on October 12, 1944, Town and upon motion of Mr. Potter, seconded by A4r. Sarano, Offices it was voted to close the Town Offices on October 12, 1944, October which is a Leal Holiday, and that the various offices 12th be notified.
