the order signed. Mr. Sheldon seconded the motion, and
it was so Voted.
At 7:31 P.M. Mr. Carroll appeared before the Board
for the drawing of one Juror.
Mr. Oscar F. Anderson, Contractor, 45 Banks Avenue,
was drawn to serve on Criminal Business, First Session
at East Cambridge, February 7, 1944.
Mr. Carroll retired at 7:32 P.M., and Mr. Paxton
appeared before the Board.
Mr. Paxton said that the Lexington Firemen's
Benefit Association had requested the use of Cary Hall
on February 4, 1944, from 8 P.M. to 1 A.M. to conduct
a dance. There will be an admission charge of $1.00
per couple, and the proceeds are for the relief association.
The Chief of Police recommends two police officers, and one
matron in attendance.
Mr. Potter moved that the use of the hall be granted.
Mr. Locke seconded the motion, and it was so voted.
Mr. Paxton read a letter from Mr. R. L. McQuillan,
President of the War Parents of America requesting the
use of Estabrook Hall on Sunday, January 30, 1944, at

would be more important than on others. At the present
time, he believes Adams Street and East Street are the
most important ones.
Mr. Potter moved that the County Commissioners be
petitioned for the layout of Adams Street from Hancock
Street to the Burlington Line. Mr. Sarano seconded the
motion,.and it was so voted.
Mr. Potter also moved that the County Commissioners
De petitioned for the layout of East Street from Adams
Street to the Woburn Line. Mr. Sarano seconded the motion,
and it was so voted. •
The Chairman read a letter from Mr. Paxton requesting
a transfer of $100.00 from the Reserve Fund to the street
lighting account.
Mr. Paxton informed the Board that the street lighting
budget was originally based on early morning lighting from
6:30 A.M. and it actually went from 5:30 A.M. This may
account for the shortage.
Mr. Locke moved that the Appropriation Committee be
requested to transfer the sum of $100.00 from the Reserve
Fund to the street lighting account. Mr. Sarano seconded
the motion, and it was so voted.
A letter was received from Mr. Wrightington relative
Maple to the petition of the Boston and Maine Railroad for an
Street apportionment of the cost of alterations on the Maple Street
Bridge Bridge.
' # l : yJense of !:i s wcrk is to be borne as f^11ows:
One-sixth by the Commonwealth, two -sixths by the County,
one-sixth by the Town of Lexington, and two -sixths by the
Boston and Maine Railroad. The cost of maintaining and
keeping in repair the sidewalks on said bridge, and the
approaches to the bridge are to be borne by the Town of
Lexington. Mr. Wrightington said that the Town has the
right to appeal and claim a jury trial within ten'days
from December 28, 1943, but that he would advise accepting
the award. He stated that an appropriation of $1096.20
should be made available.
Mr. Potter moved that the award be accepted. Mr. Sarano
seconded the motion, and it was so voted.

Bill
The Chairman read a letter from the Town Accountant.
advising that he had received a bill from the Fire Department,
approved by the -Board of Fire Engineers, in the amount of
$100.00 to be paid to Deputy Chief Roy A. Cook as extra
compensation for the use of his car.
The automobile allowance for Mr. Cook in the year 1943
has already been paid, and the Town Accountant was in doubt as
to whether this additional bill should be approved.
The Board felt that this bill was not in order for
payment inasmuch as only $100.00 was requested by the Board
of Fire Engineers in their 1943 budget, and only $100.00
had been approved for this item.
* The expense of this work is to be borne in the first instance
by the Boston and Maine Rialroad which it to be reimbursed so that
the expense ultimately will be borne as follows:

The Chairman informed the Board that it would be necessary
to request a transfer i' $6.96 in order to pay all the
Unclassified Bills for 1943. A total amount of $114.57
for the bus shelter on Lincoln Street was charged to the
Unclassified Account which no doubt caused the shortage.
Mr. Potter moved that the Appropriation Committee be
requested to transfer the sum of $6.96 from the Reserve
Fund to the Unclassified Account. Mr. Sarano seconded
the motion, and it was so voted.

Transfers
A letter was received from the Town Accountant advising
that he had received a bill for supplies purchased from the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Accounts, in the
total amount of $317.06. These forms were ordered late in
1943, and were not expected to arrive until 1944. It will
now be necessary to request a transfer of $282.50 from the
Reserve Fund to the Accounting Department - Expense Account,
in order that this bill may be paid. This will reduce
the item for state forms in the 1944 budget from $400.00
to $75.00, making the revised Accounting Department -
Expenses Account budget $362.00 instead of $687.00.
Mr. Locke moved that the Appropriation Committee be
requested to transfer the sum of $282.50 from the Reserve
Fund to the Accounting Department - Expense Account. Mr.
Sheldon seconded the motion, and it was so voted.
A notice was received from the Commonwealth of Massa-
chusetts advising that Selectmen in Towns shall, during the
month of January, appoint a Forest Warden.
Mr. Sarano moved that Roy A. Cook be reappointed
Forest Warden for one year ending December 31, 1944. Mr.
Sheldon seconded the motion, and it was so voted.
A letter was received from Joseph Trani commending the
alertness of Officer Mowatt, and the Police Department,
which may have prevented a serious loss of his stock.
