HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018 National Library Week " OFFICE OF SELECTMEN SUZANNE E.BARRY,CHAIRMAN JOSEPH PATO MICHELLE L.CICCOLO DOUGLAS M.LUCENTE TEL: (781)698-4580 JILL I.HAI FAX: (781)863-9468 Whereas: libraries create potential and possibilities within their communities, campuses and schools; and, Whereas: libraries level the playing field for all who seek information and access to technologies; and, Whereas: libraries continuously glow and evolve in how they provide for the needs of every member of their communities; and, Whereas: libraries and librarians open up a world of possibilities through innovative programing, access to technology and the power of reading; and, Whereas: librarians are trained, tech-savvy professionals,providing technology training and access to downloadable content like e-books; and, Whereas: libraries support democracy and effect social change through their commitment to provide equitable access to information for all library users regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic status; and, Whereas: libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week; and, Whereas: Tuesday, April 10, 2018,has been designated as National Library Workers day in appreciation of their work; and, Whereas: Cary Memorial Library in Lexington, Massachusetts is located in the heart of the Town center and the library and library workers provide an invaluable service to the citizens of Lexington with compassion, understanding and professionalism. NOW, THEREFORE, iflE, THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN of the Town of Lexington, Massachusetts do hereby proclaim the week of April 8 to 14, 2018 as: National Library Week in the Town of Lexington and encourage all citizens to join us in recognizing the staff of the Cary Memorial Library and further encourage all citizens to visit Cary Memorial Library to take advantage of the wonderful library resources available.
