APPROVED MEETING MINUTES
Committee Name: Lexington Bicycle Advisory Committee
Date, Time and Location of Meeting: Thursday, March 15, 2018, 7 pm, Ellen Stone
Room
Members Present: Peggy Enders (Chair), Bob Hausslein (FoLB Chair), Bob Dangel,
Lou Savarino, George Gagliardi, Jennifer Melot, Kevin Falcone, Mike Tabaczynski
Members Absent: Laurel Carpenter
Others Present: John Baron
The February 2018 meeting minutes were amended and approved.
1. Review meeting notes - add Bob Dangel to mention of meeting with DPW.
2. Crashes and police reports - Bob Dangel suggested that the recommendations
be made clearer. Kevin will work on the draft for our next meeting.
3. Bike Walk n' Bus Week - Bike Forum: Lou - bike safety; Richard C - safe routes.
Jennifer M and others do commuter talk; maybe leave maps/postit notes under
the depot up all week to let people share concerns/stories.
4. Bike Counters - Colorado DOT has good info. Peggy pointed out that we really
want to do counts on the road, especially not during commuter hours. Various
ideas floated, like using Strava data, videotaping and reviewing. No counts of
students who commute to school. Idea of having people do something to be
counted. Jordan McCarron has a "critter cam" that takes pictures (editorial: we
could do image recognition on these images with existing software to count bikes
etc.). Mike will do some research into various options.
5. Lou: outreach from the bike committee —what are our goals for 2018? Share
these with the public.
6. Liaison reports - Peggy on Center Streetscape working group. Next meeting on
benches and bike parking. Peggy wants help to decide where bike racks should
go. Commented that Triton racks have to go; they don't comply with security
standards. Jennifer commented that we should just get a row of (APBP-
conforming) inverted U racks . Lou, George, Mike, Bob, Jennifer will attend a
session to talk more about this.
7. Bob mentioned the Woburn street intersection and how the existing Beta designs
did little or nothing to improve throughput. Various discussion of options. No vote
from Selectmen. Apparently roundabout was floated again. Jennifer will bug
DPW engineers about plans for Hartwell protected bike lane.

Record of the Discussions of the Friends of Lexington Bikeways
1. Treasurer's report & Winter plowing - $2.5 plowing to end of February. People
are donating. Peggy told the story of the first March storm and the need to hire
McLaughlin to clear fallen trees and branches. Bob Hausslein suggested we
should have them itemize between snow removal and debris removal. Peggy
concerned about "overplowing" on last storm. Jennifer liked the overplowing :)
2. Tax bill insert— we have been asked to pay to have the bike safety stuff printed
and mailed. Perhaps these sorts of expenses can be in the town budget in the
future.
3. September 29, all-day celebration of 25th anniversary of the Bikeway at visitors'
center. Various aspects discussed, including historical aspect, banners, etc.
Members agreed on the need to obtain town funding; FOLB should not have to
pay for a town celebration. Lou suggested having local bike builders do a bike
exhibit. She suggested asking Carice at Bicycle Belle to bring cargo bikes (we
had her come to Lincoln Lab) and show off cargo bikes etc. Jennifer still willing to
organize a "write/call your elected officials about bike issues" event if we want.
Maybe have David Loutzenheiser to come talk about LandLine.
4. Patriot's Day Parade.- Peggy mentioned various plans, like The Float, Suzy's
dog & trailer, etc.
5. Bikeway Cleanup - Bob Hausslein floated cleanup on Sunday May 6th.
6. Went through upcoming dates, Lou will become a League Cycling Instructor this
spring.
