The lack of unstructured play and their emotional state is linked. How do we spread this information/ research to parents, without raising their own anxiety levels. This school year, we have built in a half hour block for social/ emotional learning. 3. 2018-2019 Placement Update a. Our placement process is remaining the same for the most part. The only change is this coming school year, there will be a literacy teacher for grades 3 and 4. So the third and fourth grades will have 4 sections for reading and writing and 3 sections for everything else. Kelly Cracchiolo will fill this position. This is one way to support children in both areas. b. The divided class will be entirely third grade or fourth grade. There will not be mixed grade levels. Each class will be mixed ability across the grade level. c. During the 2019-2020 school year, the intended plan is to have each grade level be split into four sections of each grade. 4. Groundbreaking and Celebration of Construction Plans a. How do we communicate with new kindergarten families? Could we use the kindergarten screening? Continue to pass out bookmarks? Lay out construction plans outside of the library at the screening? b. Could incoming kindergarten families be included in the t-shirts and hard hats? We'll have to follow up with the PTO. We could sell the shirts and use the funds for upcoming projects (such as the mosaic). c. June 13, 2018 at 9:30 AM, we will celebrate. The students will be outside, seated on the grass, facing the building. A podium will be set up looking at the field, with adults who will be speaking sitting near the podium. This is a very adult-focused event so we're hoping students will enjoy it. In thinking about this, we could have teachers speak about what makes this building special. The fifth graders could share something from their writing piece of a memory of their elementary school years. Students can share the Hastings song. In addition to wearing hard hats. d. The week before is the PTO BBQ. We could pass out t-shirts. We discussed having t-shirst for sale on that date. 5.
