With both programs being held simultaneously at the Diamond Middle Schools on Saturday mornings during the fall and spring, there is a significant parking shortage. Several alternatives were discussed, including implementing a shuttle service this spring. The winter season will be wrapping up this week and next. • The winter basketbal'l season is nearing completion. It was another successful season and these prograrns are overseen by our Recreation Supervisor,Tyler Radicioni. • Family Movie Night this Friday has 8 families registered and we are expecting more to come.We are watching Ferdinand. • Kids Test Kitchen started 3/20 with 6 kids registered,They make a different snack, or meal each week and then they take horne the recipe and the main ingredient so they can try it at home, Spring • The spring and summer program registration began on Tuesday, March 13 Ih. Despite the snowstorm and the Community Center being closed on that day,the department brought in approximately$80,000 in revenue through our online registration systern that day. • Swim passes went on sale on Monday, March 12th, The sale of non-resident swim passes has been extended and will be monitored going forward. Resident swim passes are available for purchase throughout the entire surnmer, • Our new online tennis court reservation systern, Play Local -www,p!ayL i _­ s ve for the upcoming season, The tennis courts will be permitted from April 111-October 3111 (weather permitting)and people can use this website to make a reservation for up to two weeks in advance at all of the Town-owned tennis courts (Gallagher, Clarke, Valley, and Adams) • The department has also enhanced its partnership with the Battle Green Tennis League for this season. All of the information about Battle Green is now incorporated on our department's website, • The tennis nets will be put up by April 111 (weather permitting) and the Clarke tennis courts will remain closed through April as the renovation will be completed over the next month, • The basketball rims at the Center Basketball Courts will be repaired this spring, Summer A considerable amount of time over the past two months has been spent on surnmer staff recruitment. Aquatics staff that will be hired have been notified and all day camps, sports clinics,and tennis staff will be notified in the coming weeks. Volunteer applications will be accepted until May V, Public Grounds Division • DPW staff noticed some searns that were coming tip on Lincoln#1 when they were lining the field for the season. This field is still under warranty, so the repairs were made on March 6 Ih at no expense to the Town. • Five staff attended the Certified Pool Operator's course last week and all passed. Recreation Committee FY 2018/FY2019 Goals 1. PurRie and obtain Parks and Open Space opportunities in COnjUnction with Economic Development through commercial real estate and other opportunities 2. Increase the Park and Recreation facility inventory to include additional playing fields and pocket parks, 3, Update the Work Plan as outlined in the Recreaflon and Community Programs Departryient's 2014-2016 Strategic Plan • Priority 1: Community engagement and OLitreach —ongoing • Priority 2: Financial stability and resihence—ongoing • Priority 3: Maintain existing infrastructure —ongoing • Priority 4: Operational excellence to exceed custorner expectations--ongoing 4. The rneeflngs will serve as an opportunity to share what each organization does, who we serve, brainstorrn and possibly work in a collaborative effort to idenWy service gaps, new prograrn opportunities, and expanspon of current services for the benefit of the Lexington Community. 7. Develop a plan for instituting an ID membership system for use by participants at Recreation programs and facilities, • Irving H. Mabee Town Pool Complex and Old Reservoir • Tennis courts reservations • Lexington Fligh School Field House 8, Research potential local, state, and federal grants that could assist with program costs and capital improvement projects, • Continue to apply for grants that could be applied to new and existing programs and special events for youth, teens, and famihes, • Apply for grants that could go towards FY 2018 and FY 2019 operations (programs) and capital improvement projects.
