HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-12-10-SC-minLSC Meeting Minutes of 12.10.15 - Approved by LSC on 1.19.16 1 LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, December 10, 2015 Hadley Public Services Building, First Floor Training Room “Fish Bowl” 201 Bedford Street, Lexington, MA Present: Chair Jessie Steigerwald, Margaret Coppe, Alessandro Alessandrini, Judy Crocker Superintendent Dr.Czajkowski, Pat Goddard (Director of Facilities) Vice Chair William Hurley joined the meeting at 6:38 p.m. Student Representative Abigail Schwartz were not present Minutes were taken by Ana Paula McDonough, Executive Assistant to the School Committee. The meeting convened at 6:30 p.m. Call to Order and Welcome: Chair Jessie Steigerwald called the meeting to order, and introduced committee members. Public Comment: There were none. Superintendent’s Announcements: There were none. Steigerwald requested a moment of silence in memory of Nate Cavallo, an amazing person and Lexington student who passed away yesterday at 3:00 p.m. after living with cancer for 3 ½ years. He contributed enormously to his classroom, his schools – Fiske, Diamond, and for a brief period, Lexington High School. The School Committee expressed their sympathy to the Cavallo Abair Family. School Committee Member Announcements: None. Agenda: Discussion of School Committee Capital Projects Pat Goddard addressed the School Committee regarding necessary funds to continue work with the designers (DiNisco) and project managers (Hill, DFP APM) assigned to the Clarke, Diamond, and six modular classrooms projects. The amount requested is $564,707 (Diamond $321,870, Clarke $167,237, and six modular classrooms $75,600). Mr. Goddard answered questions about: timeframe for additional studies; funds remaining from the March 2015 appropriation; 6 new science labs kept in the project; labs removed from the project which could be updated in the future if funding becomes available; an MSBA program to upgrade labs. Mr. Goddard answered questions about accessibility, including proposed new science labs and the modulars recently installed at the high school. Mr. Goddard discussed topics the Permanent Building Committee would address at their December 10 meeting, including peer review and project scheduling. Information from the Permanent Building Committee will be brought to the committee on December 15. LSC Meeting Minutes of 12.10.15 - Approved by LSC on 1.19.16 2 Motion to continue work through the month of January, we recommend that the Board of Selectmen release $564,707 from the December 2015 Special Town Meeting Article 2 appropriation of $5,386,000. (Crocker/Alessandrini.). The motion was approved (5 – 0). The School Committee adjourned at 6:52 p.m. (Steigerwald, Alessandrini) 5-0 Voted Approved by the School Committee 1.19.16
