HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-12-19-SC-min-exe Page 1 LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING Thursday, December 19, 2013 Selectmen’s Room, Lexington Town Hall 1625 Massachusetts Avenue Present: Margaret Coppe, School Committee Chair; Vice-chair Bonnie Brodner, Members Alessandro Alessandrini, Jessie Steigerwald, and Mary Ann Stewart. The Minutes were taken by Margaret Coppe, Chair. The Meeting convened at 7:00PM Motion to go into Executive Session Ms. Stewart moved, and Mr. Alessandrini seconded, that the School Committee go into Executive Session under Exemption 2, to conduct a strategy session in preparation for contract negotiations with Superintendent Ash and to return to open session. Further, the Chair declared that an open meeting may have a detrimental effect on the negotiating position of the Town. Mr. Alessandrini AYE Ms. Brodner AYE Ms Steigerwald AYE Ms. Stewart AYE Ms. Coppe AYE Executive Session: 7:01 PM The chair informed the committee that she had held discussions with counsel Colby Brunt about how to post and how to proceed with tonight’s executive session. The committee members discussed the options available to them with regard to negotiating Dr. Ash’s contract, which currently runs through June 30, 2015. He requested a three year extension in writing on October 20, 2013. The options are: 1. Acknowledge his request and enter negotiations for a three year contract 2. Acknowledged his request, but allow the notice provision in the current contract to take effect (this allows for a one-year extension and requires negotiation for that year’s contract provisions) 3. Not renew his contract beyond June 30, 2015 Ms. Stewart moved, and Ms. Brodner seconded, to return to open session Mr. Alessandrini AYE Ms. Brodner AYE Ms. Steigerwald AYE Page 2 Ms. Stewart AYE Ms. Coppe AYE The motion passed unanimously (5-0). The executive session adjourned at 7:47 PM and the committee returned to open session. Voted Approved and Released January 28, 2014
