Present: Mary Ann Stewart, School Committee Chair; Members Bonnie Brodner,
Margaret Coppe, and Jessie Steigerwald. Member Alessandro Alessandrini and
Student Representative Noah Coolidge were not present.
Members of the School Committee met as guests of the Hastings PTA. The meeting was
informational, no LPS business was undertaken.
The Chair called the meeting of the Lexington School Committee to order. Becky
Barrentine and Betty Gau, Hastings Co-Presidents, and Louise Lipsitz, Hastings
Principal, welcomed the School Committee to the Hastings PTA meeting.
1. Member Introductions
Becky Barrentine invited School Committee members to introduce themselves, asking
that Members note their name, school district, grade of any children attending school,
how long members had been on the School Committee, and why they ran for School
Committee.
2. How the School Committee Functions
Members discussed the purpose, goals, and scope of the work of the School Committee,
School Committee meetings, Open Meeting Law, and when and how Executive Sessions
are used. There were questions and comments from members of Hastings PTA.
3. How New Policies are Developed
The Committee discussed where new ideas come from and how they are developed.
There were questions and comments from members of Hastings PTA.
Motion to adjourn (Steigerwald, Brodner). The Motion was approved (4-0).
The meeting adjourned at 8:35 PM.
