LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE - EXECUTIVE SESSION

Minutes were taken by the Chair.
On a Motion made by Ms. Stewart and Seconded by Ms. Brodner, the School Committee
moved to go into Executive Session to discuss strategy with regard to collective
bargaining with the Lexington Education Association (LEA) – Unit A (exemption #3)
and to return to Open Session only to Adjourn. Further, the Chair declared that an open
meeting may have a detrimental effect on the bargaining of the Town.
On a roll-call vote the above motion passed unanimously with all Committee members
voting in the affirmative: Mr. Alessandrini-aye; Ms. Brodner-aye; Ms. Coppe-aye; Ms.
Steigerwald-aye; Mrs. Stewart-aye. Mr. Valente also voted in the affirmative.
Executive Session (convened at 5:10 p.m.)
School Committee members present in the Executive Session included:
Mary Ann Stewart, Chair; Alessandro Alessandrini, Vice-Chair; Margaret Coppe,
Jessie Steigerwald, and Bonnie Brodner.
Others present were: Dr. Paul Ash, Superintendent of Schools; Bob Harris, Assistant
Superintendent for Human Resources; and Carl Valente, Town Manager.
Dr. Ash recommended a change in labor counsel within the law firm of Morgan-Brown
& Joy from David Connelly to Keith Muntyan.
Following deliberations, Ms. Coppe Moved and Ms. Steigerwald Seconded that,
“Keith Muntyan represent the School Committee in LEA-Unit A negotiations
replacing David Connelly.”
On a roll-call vote, the above Motion passed unanimously with Committee members
voting in the affirmative: Mr. Alessandrini-aye; Ms. Brodner-aye; Ms. Coppe-aye; Ms.
Steigerwald-aye; and Ms. Stewart-aye. Mr. Valente abstained.
Dr. Ash began a presentation of the LEA’s contract proposals.
At 5:35 p.m. the committee took a brief recess for dinner.
At 6:00 p.m. Dr. Ash resumed his presentation and in connection with the LEA’s wage
proposals, after which the Committee deliberated on the same.

At 7:40 p.m. Mr. Valente left the meeting.
The Chair entertained a Motion to Adjourn from Executive Session and return to Open
Session made by Ms. Coppe and Seconded by Mr. Alessandrini. On a roll-call vote the
above Motion passed unanimously with all Committee members voting in the
affirmative: Mr. Alessandrini-aye; Ms. Brodner-aye; Ms. Coppe-aye; Ms. Steigerwald-
aye; and Ms. Stewart-aye.
The Executive Session adjourned at 8:07 PM.
