HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-09-20-SC-min-exe LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE - EXECUTIVE SESSION Cary Memorial Hall, Ellen Stone Room 1605 Massachusetts Avenue Tuesday, September 20, 2011 Minutes were taken by the Chair. On a motion made by Ms. Coppe and seconded by Ms. Steigerwald, the School Committee moved to go into Executive Session (exemption #3) for the purpose of collective bargaining with the Lexington Education Association (LEA) and the Lexington Educational Secretaries Association (LESA) and not to return to open session. On a roll-call vote the above motion passed unanimously with all committee members voting in the affirmative: Mr. Alessandrini-aye; Ms. Brodner-aye; Ms. Coppe-aye; Ms. Steigerwald-aye; and Ms. Stewart-aye. School Committee members present in the executive session included: Mary Ann Stewart, Chair; Alessandro Alessandrini, Vice-Chair; Margaret Coppe, Jessie Steigerwald, and Bonnie Brodner. Others present were: Dr. Paul Ash, Superintendent of Schools and Bob Harris, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. Executive Session (convened at 10:33 PM.) Dr. Ash and Mr. Harris briefed the Committee on a request from the LEA to be the exclusive bargaining agent for LESA. Following deliberations, Ms. Coppe moved and Ms. Brodner seconded: “To direct the Superintendent to request a letter from LESA if they choose to join the LEA.” On a roll-call vote the above motion passed unanimously with all committee members voting in the affirmative: Alessandrini-aye; Brodner-aye; Coppe-aye; Steigerwald-aye; and Stewart-aye. A second issue involved department heads being represented by the LEA. The chair entertained a motion to adjourn made by Ms. Coppe seconded by Mr. Alessandrini. On a roll-call vote the above motion passed unanimously with all committee members voting in the affirmative: Alessandrini-aye; Brodner-aye; Coppe- aye; Steigerwald-aye; and Stewart-aye. The Executive Session adjourned at 11:04 PM. Voted Approved and Released _____October 4, 2011____
