LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, April 11, 2011
Lexington Town Office Building, Room G15
1625 Massachusetts Avenue
Present: Superintendent Paul Ash, School Committee Chair Mary Ann Stewart, School
Committee Members Sandro Alessandrini, Bonnie Brodner, Margaret Coppe and
Jessie Steigerwald and student representative Noah Coolidge.
The minutes were taken by Mary Ann Stewart.
The meeting was convened at 6:30 p.m.
I. Call to Order and Welcome (Chair Stewart)
II. Superintendent’s Announcements
Dr. Ash announced that the last day of school will be June 22 for all schools except Estabrook;
Estabrook’s last day will be June 24. Estabrook is making up two days lost earlier this year due
to the PCB analysis. The last day will be a half-day for all students.
III. Members’ Reports / Members’ Concerns
Margaret Coppe: The Policy Sub-Committee will be meeting on April 14. They are looking
at several drafts to bring forward to the School Committee.
Jessie Steigerwald: The Youth Services Committee is looking for three student representatives
to serve on the committee.
IV. Discussion
1. Article 4 Amendment Reconsideration
The Chair noted that there had been an active discussion on the Town Meeting Members
email list concerning Reconsideration. The Reconsideration for the Amendment to Article 4
would propose that a study group be formed to review and recommend best practices for
financial impact analysis related to proposed rezoning actions. The Committee did not take
a position and determined to caucus on the floor of Town Meeting if necessary, if further
voting action was required.
2. Other Town Meeting Articles
No other Articles were discussed.
V. Action Items
1. Vote to Approve School Committee Minutes of March 21, 2011.
The minutes were approved as presented.
The meeting was recessed at 7:05 PM, to reconvene on the floor of Town Meeting.
