LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
Wednesday, March 30, 2011
Lexington Town Office Building, Room G15
1625 Massachusetts Avenue
Present: Superintendent Paul Ash, School Committee Chair Mary Ann Stewart, School
Committee Members Sandro Alessandrini, Bonnie Brodner, Margaret Coppe and Jessie
Steigerwald and student representative Noah Coolidge. The minutes were taken by Leora Tec.
The meeting was convened at 6:37 p.m.
I. Call to Order and Welcome (Chair Mary Ann Stewart)
II. Members’ Reports / Members’ Concerns
Jessie Steigerwald: When will Jen Vogelzang (School Committee liaison to the Permanent
Building Committee) return to us with updates?
Chair Stewart: There are no updates as yet; I will follow up with Jen.
III. Discussion
1. School Committee Liaison Assignments.
The Committee discussed the liaison assignments of School Committee members for the
upcoming school year.
2. Town Meeting Articles. The Committee discussed Articles 10, 12, 13, and 17.
Dr. Ash stated that Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Mary Ellen Dunn
and Director of Educational Technology and Assessment Thomas Plati will be available at
Town Meeting to respond to questions.
Chair Stewart will present the School Committee’s position on Article 10, sections d, g, and o.
Regarding Article 17, there was disagreement regarding whether or not the Committee
should take a stand on it. The majority decided that the Committee should not take a
position on this Article.
IV. Action Items
1. Vote to Approve School Committee Minutes of March 15, 2011.
The School Committee Minutes of March 15, 2011 are adopted as amended by
unanimous consent.
V. The meeting was recessed at 7:15 p.m., to reconvene on the floor of Town Meeting.
