LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE
PUBLIC HEARING AND INFORMATION SESSION
ON THE RECOMMENDED K-12 LONG-RANGE FACILITIES PLAN
Monday, November 2, 2009

Present: Superintendent Paul Ash, School Committee Chair Margaret Coppe, School
Committee Members Rod Cole, Tom Diaz, Jessie Steigerwald, Mary Ann Stewart and student
representative Liam Gandelsman. The minutes were taken by Leora Tec.
The meeting was convened at 7:37 p.m.
I. Call to Order and Welcome (Margaret Coppe)
II. Discussion Item
1. Overview of the Recommended K-12 Long-Range Facilities Plan. Presented by Paul Ash and
Patrick Goddard, Director of Public Facilities. Also present were David Finney, Architect,
Design Partnerships and Mark Barrett, Project Manager.
2. Public Hearing
Joe Seidel: Encouraged to see a long-term plan for school renovations. Questioning accuracy
of enrollment projections.
Sharon Kendall: In favor of community schools and smaller schools; five hundred is a lot of
kids in a school.
Tom Diaz: Please remind us what is our preferred size for elementary schools?
David Finney: Our recommendation was to look at the schools that replaced Fiske and
Harrington as models: approximately 450 pupils.
III. Motion to adjourn (Diaz, Cole). The motion passed 5-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
