The minutes were taken by Leora Tec. The meeting was convened at 7:31 p.m. I. Call to Order and Welcome (Margaret Coppe) II. Members’ Reports / Members’ Concerns Rod Cole: Several parents have asked why students have a day off the day after a holiday (Columbus Day). Paul Ash: Dr. Larry Ainsworth had only one day opened when we booked him eighteen months ago. What he had to share with teachers was so in keeping with what we wanted to share that we booked him even though it was not the most convenient day. Jessie Steigerwald: The Youth Services Council was very appreciative of Dr. Ash’s efforts to find space for activities. The presentation from SADD (students against destructive decisions) was very impressive. It would be great to have that presented to the broader community. Perhaps they could speak at Public Comment at an upcoming School Committee meeting. Tom Diaz: Do we know who will be on the Trivia Team representing the School Committee? Margaret Coppe: Mary Ann Stewart and Margaret Coppe, with you (Tom Diaz) as our captain. III. Discussion Items 1. School Committee Goals. The Committee discussed last years’ goals and proposed goals for next year. 2. The Committee discussed an additional meeting to discuss the facilities plan. It will be an informational meeting informing the community of the Master Plan with Paul Ash, Patrick Goddard, Director of Public Facilities, and perhaps the architect, David Finney, who will give a brief presentation followed by an open discussion with the community. The meeting will be held on Monday, November 2, at Cary Hall at 7:30 p.m. SC Meeting 10/13/09 page # 2 IV. Action Items 1.
