LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, April 6, 2009
Cary Hall, Estabrook Hall

Present: Superintendent Paul Ash, School Committee Chair Margaret Coppe, School
Committee Members Rod Cole, Tom Diaz, Jessie Steigerwald and Mary Ann Stewart. The
minutes were taken by Leora Tec.
The meeting was convened at 6:38 p.m.
I. Call to Order and Welcome (Margaret Coppe)
II. Members’ Reports / Members’ Concerns
Mary Ann Stewart:
(1) We received a letter from the Lincoln School Committee to Governor Deval Patrick
supporting funding for METCO. Ms. Stewart asked if we wanted to send a similar letter.
She will draft the letter and circulate it via email.
(2) Ms. Stewart clarified some things regarding liaison assignments.
Jessie Steigerwald:
(1) Attended the Sidewalk Committee meeting concerning installing new sidewalks near the
Hastings School today. The group is going to recommend a sidewalk on the north side of
Roosevelt.
(2) This Saturday Hastings is sending a team to the Destination Imagination tournament.
III. Discussion
1. Consideration of Warrant Articles 11a (CPA funding for studying draining improvements
to preserve academic fields), 11h (the Stone building renovation study), and 19 (Public
Facilities capital request).
The Committee discussed the Warrant Articles. The Committee decided it was not
necessary to take a vote on Article 11h.
Motion to support Warrant Article 11a (Cole, Stewart). The motion passed 5-0.
Motion to support Warrant Article 19 (Diaz, Stewart). The motion passed 5-0.
The Committee discussed Warrant Article 11b (CPA project for improvements at the Old Res).
IV. Motion to recess and reconvene at the Chair’s pleasure on the floor of Town Meeting
(Diaz, Cole). The motion passed 5-0.
The meeting was recessed at 7:08 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned following Town Meeting.
