LEXINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Present: Superintendent Paul Ash, School Committee Chair
Tom Diaz, School Committee Members Helen Cohen, Rod Cole, Margaret
Coppe, and Ravi Sakhuja. The minutes were taken by Leora Tec.

Anne Frymer: Spoke about the smokers’ corner at the high school.
V. Superintendent’s Announcements
1. Introduction of Louise Lipsitz (new Hastings’ Elementary School principal) and
Natalie Cohen (new Lexington High School principal)
2. Jennifer Wolfrum Appointed to the Position of Assistant Coordinator for Health in the
LPS PE/Wellness Department
3. An enormous thank you to the Lexington Education Foundation for grants totaling
$413,344.
VI. Members’ Reports / Members’ Concerns
Helen Cohen: I attended the Health PAC meeting and was very impressed by the work that
has been done on health and wellness in our schools.
Tom Diaz: Congratulations to seniors. Enjoy yourselves safely this weekend. Thanks to Dr.
Jones for facilitating buses to the prom.

VII. Discussion Items
1. Update: Year 2 Physical Education and Wellness Curriculum Review. Presented by
Eamon Sheehan, Coordinator of Physical Education and Wellness and Nicole Rhodes.
There were questions and comments from the Committee.
2. Update: Year 1 Science Curriculum Review. Presented by Fran Ludwig, K-5 Science
Coordinator.
There were questions and comments from the Committee.
3. School Lunch Price Proposal for 2008–2009 School Year
Mary Ellen Dunn explained the proposal to raise the lunch price from $3.00 to $3.25 and
the milk price from $.50 to $.75. The proposal will be voted on at the next meeting.
VIII. Action Items
Vote to Approve Superintendent’s Recommended Calendar for the 2009–2010 School Year
Motion to approve superintendent’s recommended calendar for the 2009–2010 school
year (Cohen, Cole). The motion passed 5-0.
IX. Motion to adjourn (Cohen, Cole). The motion passed 5-0.
