Topic Notes
1. Approve February Minutes D. Bonarrigo:
No meeting in March due to high snow
totals
February minutes approved
2. Update on Principal Search D. Bonarrigo shared about the progress of
the principal search.
There was an initial search,
none of the candidates were moved
forward.
All three searches were put together.
(Bowman, Estabrook, Harrington)
M. Dardeno asked about Site Council
representation on the search committee.
Parents are represented, but no one from
the Harrington Site Council.
If a principal is not found by the end of May,
the position will be filled by an interim
principal.
3. School Dress Policy D. Bonarrigo addressed the school dress
policy. We read a "blurb" about a dress
code that could be put into a handbook or
on the website.

M. Dardeno suggested revising the
Harrington School Handbook to include
something about the School Dress Policy.
This could possibly be part of the FAQ
section.
S. Dever and K. Evanson shared about their
classroom experiences with the Dress
Policy.They mentioned a spoken, but not
written policy that included respectful and
safe clothing choices (hats, warm clothes,
close toed shoes).
4. School Improvement Plan 2018-19 D. Bonarrigo discussed ideas around the SIP
goals,what took place this year and what
the school is thinking about for next year.
Goal 1:Academic
• Donna will get back to the group
with the specific goals
Goal 2:Social Emotional
• Staff professional learning:
o Jessica Minihan, BCBA
Behavior Specialist
o Lynne Griffin RN, MEd Social
Emotional learning
integrated into the
curriculum
• SEI Programs:

o A discussion ensued about
how many different
programs Harrington has
tried over the years.

is being done for support
staff at lunch and recess.

to develop strategies
and lessons for
working and
communicating with
SSPs.

schedule that allows
SSPs to work with
teachers to deliver
lessons.
■ A. Pelletier's plan
includes timelines
and surveys to
strengthen
connections between
students and support
staff. He will develop
long term goals with
consistency.
Goal 3:School Safety
Goal 4: Parent Engagement
• "Let's Chat" discussion
o History: M. Dardino talked
about staff expressing the
need for parent engagement
and shows the school values
the family connection.
o A. Ostrowski expressed that
there is better
communication now and that
the school feels more
welcoming. There are also
more people and families
involved.
o K. Evanson asked about
follow-ups to the Let's Chat
events. (list of who attended
or posting of event handouts
for those who could not
attend)
o The events take place in the
morning and evening.
o The MCAS topic was the
most well attended

Goal 5: Diversity
• Grades 3 and 4 are piloting the
Understanding Our Differences
curriculum.This program simulates
what it feels like to have a physical
and/or learning disability
• 2 hour program includes
introduction done by parents, 3-4
learning tasks, and a speaker that
has that has experienced the
disability.
• Harrington staff, led by K. Rogerson,
continues to develop a series of
lessons connected to teaching
students how to engage with the
DLP students. K. Evanson
mentioned that once she taught the
lessons in her class, her students
saw the school through a different
lens.
• Staff worked on developing an
appreciation of cultural and racial
differences.

S. Wrap-Up & Future Agendas Wrap-Up: D. Bonarrigo talked about the
• Let's Chat: Cyber Safety(May?); Next Let's Chat series. She said that the school
