HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-01-09-SEPAC-min Lexington Special Education Parent Advisory Council(SEPAC) Lexington Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) Business Meeting Minutes January 9,2018 Attendees: Robin Abrams, Bettina McGimsey, Mona Roy, Lisa O'Brien, Kathy Cunningham, Christina Patti,Jennifer Yaar Called to order: 9:10 am Adjourned: 10:35 Am • 11/30/17 Meeting Minutes approved • Treasurer Update: As of October 30--$5890.95 as of end of December 2017. • Team to come up with ideas regarding best ways to use funds during the 2018 and 2019 school years (need to determine funds needed for resource fair and end-of-year staff appreciation). • Calendar Review: 0 2/7/18 7:00-8:30 pm: Hallowell ADHD (expecting lots of interest,will need to monitor registrations) 0 3/6/2018 7:00-7:30 pm—business meeting 0 3/15/18: Jessica Minahan 0 4/7/18: Resource Fair(time/location to be determined o May presentation (date/time to be determined): Social Thinking presentation (Kathy C researching) 0 5/8/18 9:00-10:30: Business meeting 0 6/7/18 9:00-10:30: Business meeting • Bettina to create a Winter/Spring flyer outlining scheduled events/meetings. • Human Rights Committee update: o Discipline survey—likely to be released in May. Mona would like SEPAC members to review and provide feedback. o Team hopes to schedule "Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid"for November 2018, in collaboration with Human Rights Committee. • School Committee Update o Question about whether budget includes circuit breaker spending. o Increase in out-of-district placement from 139-150 o School Committee will be budget funds for DLP (Developmental Learning Program) improvements • Team discussed need for program reviews consistently and concerns about program silos in the high school ILP programs. Follow-up discussions to be scheduled. • Nominating Committee will consist of Jennifer Yaar, Bettina McGimsey, Kathy Cunningham, Robin Abrams, and Mona Roy. • Resource Fair: Christina Patti is coordinating and will confirm location and timing,will reach out to SEPAC members for recommendations for participants. • Team members will work to get more information about the three superintendent candidates.
