HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-09-12-SEPAC-min Lexington Special Education Parent Advisory Council(SEPAL) Lexington Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) Business Meeting Minutes September 12,2017 Attendees: Jennifer Yaar, Kathy Cunningham, Christina Patti, Myriam Wright, Barbara White, Agnes Chan, Kim Murray, Lisa O'Brien, Bettina McGimsey, Mona Roy, Meena Kurup, Elise Phair, Nicole Diggins-Locher, Robin Abrams, Amy Marsili, Carissa Black Location: Lexington Community Center, Room 237 Call to order: 9:07 am Adjourned: 10:45 am Reports of Officers • Treasurer Report: For 2016-2017 school year, $3993 took in, $2000 spent. $345 in dues so far in the 2017-2018 school year. Audit of 2016-2017 finances to be completed following the 9/12 business meeting. Members were reminded to use Amazon Smile as a way of donating additional funds. • SEPAC Membership: Lauren Onorato working on plan for driving membership numbers for 2017-2018 school year. All officers reminded to become SEPAC members. Secretary Report: Open Meeting requests for all confirmed meetings have been submitted to the Town Clerk. Continuing to work on confirming room request for Science Lecture Hall for October 11 meeting. Upcoming Meetings • September 25 Parent Meet & Greet: Should have sign-up sheets from various subgroups. Will have laptop so that attendees can sign up for membership at the meeting. Mona Roy and Carol Millard to work on food and setup tasks. • October 11: Dyslexia Film Screening. • November 8: Nicole Diggins-Locher working on scheduling a speaker about goal-driven IEP creation. • Shut Up About Your Perfect Kids—request to move this meeting to March from the Lexington Community Coalition. • Lisa O'Brien to work on scheduling Basic Rights presentation on Dec 7 through MassPAC Other Topics Discussed • SEPAC Parent Survey to be postponed until 2018-2019 School year due to Human Rights Coalition Survey that will focus on higher rates of suspension in African-American students and students on IEPs. • Development Learning Program (DLP) Audit Report will be finalized on September 15 and will be presented to the School Committee (date TBD). • Understanding Our Differences program to be piloted at the Harrington School during the 2017- 2018 school year. There is interest in the program from the Community Coalition as well. Lisa O'Brien and Kathy Cunningham to follow up with Ellen Sugita about future plans for this effort. • Carissa Black is working with the Lexington Recreation Department on vacation and summer programming for students with special needs. • Christina Patti is working on a special needs resource fair for the spring timeframe.
