MEETING MINUTES
Present: Mary Anton, Kathy Caron, Seth Moeller, Lauren Avery, Kavita Ravi, Melinda Webster

February 9, 2018 minutes unanimously approved with a motion by Seth Moeller and seconded
by Lauren Avery at 7:52 am.

I. Announcements:
4- K/1 math night. Went well and was well attended.
4- Passport To The World- Committee has been meeting and there has been great
progress. Sign ups to go out from Dr.Anton. Committee meeting again on March 27th at
8 am.
4- Discussion around the last day of school. At this time proposed that June 22nd, 2018 will
be the last day for students barring no additional snow days.
❖ Placement forms will come out early April and be due back before April vacation. They
will go out electronically. Not paper.
Placement letters for next year will go out August 10th or 11 th.
❖ Kindergarten orientation went well.
K screening will change this year and will be adding the PAR (Predictive Assessment of
Reading)as a screening for early dyslexia screening.
❖ There will be an additional day for K screening this year to accommodate the PAR
screening.
❖ MCAS begins April 2, 2018. Fourth and Fifth graders will be on the computer.
❖ Variety Show tonight at Clarke, Disco Bingo April 6th.
Will be having a Third-Fifth grade parent evening to talk about social media and
understanding the ramifications of Social media.
II. Public Comment
❖ Question of whether there has ever been a conversation about having one spring break
instead of two weeks.
Lauren Avery shared that the Central Registration website isn't easy to use for
Kindergarten registration and has some glitches. Suggested that feedback be given via
the Lexington Public Schools Lexington Listens.
Discussion about placement process and the placement form filled out by parents.
Question about any teachers that are known to be leaving. Dr. Anton shared that she isn't
anticipating a lot of change for next year.
❖ Discussion about how many students is the target number per class by grade level.
III. Bowman School Curriculum Updates
❖ Parent math night coming up on April 5, 2018 - Information for parents to understand
about Math Mindset, questioning. Run by Cristina Roof, math specialist. In keeping with
our own professional learning as a staff and work happening in Mathematics in the
classroom. The goal is to give parents more information about how math is taught at
Bowman and the methodology.
❖ Kavita Ravi shared her experience in attending a math night and how helpful it was to
understand the methodology and approach to math teaching and how to support children
with their math homework.
Other evening coming up is Dismantling Racism evening on April 12, 2018
Discussion of technology and the bigger picture of social media with smart phones and
other technology outside of school.
Resource officer will be meeting with 4th and 5th graders next week for education and
discussion around social media and the ramifications of social media.
IV. Discussion -Principal Search
Initial interviews today
Site visits will follow
4- Committee representative of Bowman
Goal to make sure the transition goes smoothly
❖ Dr. Anton's goal is once the person is named to spend time with the new principal to
share with them about Bowman.
V. Discussion -School Improvement Plan for FY19
❖ Needs to be written prior to the new Principal starting.
❖ Staff feels strongly about continuing the Dismantling Racism work
If Site Council feels strongly about goals, will be talked about at the next Site Council
meeting. Site Councils members are encouraged to bring their ideas and questions.
❖ Outline of different goals shared by Dr. Anton.
Dr. Anton shared that there will be discussion with Dr. Czajkowski about sections for each grade level for
next year.
Motion to adjourn by Kavita Ravi and seconded by Seth Moeller at 8:44. Unanimously approved by all
members.
