HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009.01.26 BOS-ES-min - Released ES6-380 EXECUTIVE SESSION January 26, 2009 PRESENT: Chairman Cohen, Mrs. Krieger, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Manz and Mr. Burnell; Mr. Valente, Town Manager; and Ms. Pease, Executive Clerk, were present. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 5-0 to go into executive session to discuss contract negotiations, disposition of real estate, and criminal misconduct, which no intent to return to open session. Disposition of Real Estate Mr. Valente and Mr. Cohen met with some representatives for the Busa property, who are interested in selling approximately 8 acres to the Town. The Town will be currently moving forward with getting an appraisal of the property in order to proceed with requestingfunds from CPA. Mr. Cohen will contactLexHAB to see what their interest is in the two existing houses on the property. Land would be used for recreation and LexHAB; the Conservation Commission has interest in an area near the bufferzone abutting the Great Meadow. Mr. Valente, Mrs. Krieger, Mr. Hornig and Ms. Yanofsky have had meetings with Beal to discuss a traffic mitigation plan that would help reducesingle-occupancyvehicles driving there. Beal isconcerned that the plan is too costly and questioned whether Lexpressserviceshould be part of the package. Should include Lexpress if service is provided to the developer’s area. Selectmen requested that negotiations continue. Criminal Misconduct Mr. Valente updated the Selectmen on the police issue previously discussed on January 5. The District Attorney’s office will let the Town know this week if they want to pursue the case or whether the Town will handle internally. The Fire Chief is looking into a complaint received from the state that firefighters get credit for courses but did not actually show up for the class. Collective Bargaining –FY2010 The recommended budget includes a reduction in the Salary Adjustment line item which works out to .5 percent for municipal employees. Mr. Valente is hoping to negotiate even lower. The Town Manager and Superintendent need to approach negotiations the same way. Strategy should be to negotiate health and wages on a parallel basis and the school should do the same.
