We are committed to providing active and passive leisure opportunities that are education,fun and life-enriching. The Department promotes participation by all Lexington residents in safe,accessible and well-maintained facilities. 2 Programs&Services Winter • The ski/snowboard programs at Nashoba Valley ended prior to the February school vacation week on Thursday, February 1511(elementary school) and Friday, February 16th (middle and high school). • During the February school vacation week, program offerings included a multi-sports program at the Diamond Middle School (46 participants)and a basketball clinic at the Fiske School (28 participants). • Most winter classes ended the week prior to February break. A 3-week mini session is being offered to fill the gap before the spring session. The small commitment, along with drop-in ability,will allow participants to try out some new classes. • The Community Center will now provide on-demand cups of coffee for purchase at the cost of$1. This pilot program will begin on March 151 • February Vacation Week Programming was a success: o Kidstock had 24 participants, which culminated with a performance on Friday where all the parents and friends showed up.The play was about superheroes and villains o Chess had 8, each child received a medal at the end of the week o Public speaking had 15, by the end of the week everyone had parts to a news cast that will be stitched together and emailed to all the kids. • Thomas Romano will be conducting an interview with LexMedia on March 2nd at the LCC to promote Kensington Enrichment. • Our first Resource Fair was held on Saturday,January 20th. A total of 16 afterschool and summer providers attended to highlight their programs. An estimated 160 people stopped by throughout the day to speak with instructors,gather information and collect giveaways. • The LCC hosted the UNPLUG event on Feb 10th where 100+families attended.This event was sponsored by Lexington Education Foundation, Pinot's Pallet,Yamaha Music School of Boston, and Lexington Recreation &Community Programs.There was yoga,violin and guitar lessons, painting, story book reading,and raffles.We're looking to host this successful event again next year. Photos of event are on FB. Spring • The spring NFL FLAG Football League is full with 72 children in the ages 9-11 league and 66 children in the ages 12-14 league. Program will be offered on April 29th-June 10th from 6:30-8:30pm at Lincoln #2. • The spring&summer brochure is currently at the printer and will be delivered to all Lexington households next week. Program registration will begin on Tuesday, March 13th o New programs include: ■ Drawing with Young Rembrandts ■ Kids Night Out for middle schoolers ■ The World According to Google Earth ■ Awareness Through Movement ■ Financial Foundations Education Series • Swim passes will go on sale on Monday, March 12tH • New for 2018: Online tennis court reservation system (Play Local—www.playlocal.com) and increased partnership with the Battle Green Tennis League. • Recruitment for summer staff is nearing completion. The application deadline for new staff applicants is tomorrow, March 151. Volunteer applications will be accepted until May 11t. • The Department will be looking for an individual to attend a Train the Trainer course, qualifying them to teach CPR/First Aid trainings. The cost of the training is funded by the CEL grant.
