At the March 1977 Toii3i Ree A;, 7:;Tilding Commit-
tee was assigned to a, sist te HGq. Committee in
its proposed cGnStku(' ion of a jei,. ,,_ S ongoing
summer concerts.
Since no st n"k,are could be constructe.s on the Green, the Com-
mittee examined several other gossib7.e litaa involving the
green adjacent to Maz3achusetts Ave: .:: the Hayden skating
facility, Towers Park and the area of Too; -owned property ad-
jacent to both sides of Buckman Tavern. This last site was
chosen for its central location and the abundant parking avail-
able nearby. (Many senior citizens enjoy these concerts and
this site was most convenient for them) . The Selectmen en-
dorsed this choice, pending approval of the design of the band-
stand.
Subsequently, to save design costs, archi taceral schools in
the area were approached r ith n proposal t a design the bandstand
but there was no interest shown In the idea.
In late Spring this year, eh 1.13C will begin interviewing archi-,
tects for the project when t ndi;g will be available through a
money-raising effort on the pal:t of the B!cent.e inial band. It
is anticipated that a design W.1.1 be presented to Town Meeting
for its approval at the March 1979 Town Meeting.
