HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-11-02-SLC-min Town of Lexington Sustainable Lexington Committee Minutes of Meeting of November 2, 2017 A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC)was held on November 2, 2017 at Cary Hall. A quorum of five was present. Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Marcia Gens, Rick Reibstein Todd Rhodes, Dan Voss Members Absent: None Other Attendees: Joe Pato The meeting was called to order at 7:20 pm. Drive Green (M. Sandeen) • Planning an electric car program on November 19 at the Depot. Electric Car owners will be available to talk and show their cars and local dealers will be invited. • Mass Energy doesn't have a program for home charging stations yet, but we'll pursue that they consider one. Solar Energy Task Force (M. Sandeen) • The Eversource rate case is looking good—should be able to be grandfathered. We'll find out in December. Getting to Net Zero (M. Sandeen) • November 13 presentation to Board of Selectmen. • Asking for a public meeting on December 5 or 6. • Considering a warrant article that the Town should purchase 100%renewable energy for municipal buildings. Lexington Energy Challenge (T. Rhodes) • We are making progress against our Home Energy Assessment goal,but it doesn't look like we'll be able to reach 100% of the goal. Insulation and Air Sealing are lagging also. Garbage (T. Rhodes) • The Town's residential solid waste collection contract is coming to an end in mid- 2018 and the Town is considering switching to an automated pick-up system that would also formally allow for single-stream recycling (mixed paper, and plastic, glass, metal containers.). • Some residents have expressed concern about the size the containers that would be required. Energy Storage (M. Sandeen) • The committee discussed the observation that school buildings are ideal for solar and storage and this approach should be considered on school building programs. Page 1 of 2 Community Choice Aggregation (M. Sandeen) • 93% of residents are now in the Community Choice program. • The balance are mostly residents that source electricity from a different third-party. A few (-3%) opted out and stayed with Eversource. Quiet Communities (R. Reibstein) • Rick with Dave Pinsonneault to discuss opportunities for the Town to begin using electric lawn maintenance equipment. Mr. Pinsonneault plans to meet with the head of Quiet Communities. • In addition, the committee is considering an electronic lawnmower exchange in the spring. Annual Report (M. Sandeen) • The committee reviewed the annual report and agreed to send it to the BOS. Page 2 of 2
