HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-09-05-SLC-min Town of Lexington Sustainable Lexington Committee Minutes of Meeting of September 5, 2017 A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC)was held on September 5, 2017 at Cary Hall. A quorum of five was present. Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Marcia Gens, Rick Reibstein, Todd Rhodes, Members Absent: Dan Voss Other Attendees: Joe Pato Anna Vanderspek, from Mass Energy Craig Foley (ReMax—Leading Edge, Chief of Energy Solutions) The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. Discussion of Energy Efficient Buildings and Real Estate Sales (M. Sandeen) • Mr. Foley provided information about the value that information about a homes energy performance provides when selling a home. • 38 fewer days on market for homes that publish utility data. • Zillow and Redfin are in the process for posting the Tendril energy ratings for homes. Lexington Energy Challenge (T. Rhodes) • 700 HEAs have been completed as of our last status report. • We are planning a presentation at the library on October 3 to discuss the Lexington Energy Challenge and Getting to Net Zero. • We are also planning to send another letter to town residents—HomeWorks will cover the cost of the letter. • Other events arc needed to help us get more participation by the end of the year. Better Buildings—Resilience (M. Sandeen) • There has been no change in the status of the Sustainable Building Policy. • The committee discussed adding "islanding" into the building policy. There should be a link to the Emergency Response Plan Green Cars (M. Sandeen) • Anna Vanderspek from Mass Energy presented the Drive Green program to the committee last month. • The committee will look for a date to run the program at the Community Center. Community Choice (M. Sandeen) • 90% of residents converted to Community Choice • 6-7% opted out and returned to Eversource • —2% opted to the cheaper Eversource option • 007 million kWh per year Page 1 of 2 Quiet Communities (R. Reibstein) • Mark and Rick plan to meet with Dave Pinsonneault to discuss the potential for municipal use of electric landscaping equipment. • The committee agree that it should fund a residential program(using money from the Lexington Energy Challenge) to subsidize the purchase of electric lawn mowers. • This program could potentially be paired with the Green Car program. Super Emitter—National Grid(M. Sandeen) • There will be a presentation at MIT on October 3 to present the results of the Super Emitter program. Page 2 of 2
