HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-01-18-TREE-min Lexington Tree Committee Town of Lexington, Massachusetts 201 Bedford Street, Samuel Hadley Public Services Building, Room 125 Minutes, Meeting of January 18, 2018 Attendees: John Frey (Chairman), Gerry Paul, Jewel Kuljian, Nancy Sofen, Jim and Chris Filadoro (Tree Warden) Gerry Paul took his turn as scribe. Minutes of the December 14 meeting were approved. Town Engineer John Livsey and a member of his staff updated the committee on a project to repair the earthen dam at the Old Res. Unfortunately, this will involve removing all trees on the dam itself. New trees will be planted in close proximity but not on the dam. Engineering will consult with us on tree species for the trees to be planted. Tree inventory -While multiple vendors responded with questions, Chris has received only 1 quote (from Davey Tree). He ask Bartlett for a quote. Bylaw activity- no update. Tree Species recommendations - Nancy presented recommended lists of trees for street and setback planting. The committee voted to approve the lists as guidelines for Chris (without any ALB susceptible species for now- we will discuss further at our next meeting). Nancy will check if the "Large Shade Tree" list used for double credit by contractors is a superset of the large shade tree list for use by Chris. Tree Management Manual update - will be discussed at next month's meeting. 2017 Tree Planting - Chris confirmed that the will require a mitigation fee for trees removed at 29 Eliot Rd since the Dawn Redwood which was supposed to be spared was, in fact, removed. Chris will provide a list locations and species of all trees planted as part of the fall 2017 planting. Mass Ave Sidewalk reconstruction - Gerry presented new information about the actual right-of- way as researched by Town Engineering. The committee will invite Erik G. and Marc V. for discussion at our next meeting. New TC member search - We voted to recommend Pat Moyer for appointment to the Tree Committee. John will notify the Selectmen's office. Tree Committee website update - not discussed. Amend Tree Bylaw to address dense housing developments - no new information Striped Maple replacement in Nell Walker's grove - Chris reported that Matt Foti can source the tree and it will be planted in the Spring. Amend Tree Bylaw to address dense housing developments - Gerry will schedule a meeting with Aaron Henry, Town Planning Director and will notify members of the time/place.
