Black replies, there could be multiple hearts of the building, it's all connected. Auditorium: High function space. Gymnasium &Alternative PE: Weights and cardio space, dancing space, yoga space. Program and Discussion • Existing Conditions Investigations • Curriculum and Schedule Analysis • Precedents • Focus Groups, Visioning, Educational Programming Meetings Curriculum to Space Analysis: Analyze enrollment to justify what the space needs. Program Space Summary: Existing conditions,Proposed program, variation to msba guideline, If need more space than what the MSBA's guideline provides, the space summary helps to justify it if any additional space/classrooms are needed. Program Areas General Ed. Classrooms • Existing: 695 SF Avg • MSBA: 850-900 SD(Min 825) Science Labs(60sf per student required for a safe lab classroom) • Existing: 1,069 SF Avg • MSBA: 1,440 SF Cafeteria • Existing: 9,390 SF • MSBA: 11,980 SF STEM Labs MSBA Allotted(17)Labs • Maker Space • Engineering • Digital Design Lab • Fabrication • Robotics • TV Production/Broadcast Discussion: Page 3 of 5 A.Baker asks,is Mechanical,Electrical, and Plumbing(MEP)considered reimbursed? M.Rice replies, the MSBA reimburses construction cost at a maximum cap. J.Hackett asks if the definition of STEM lab includes anything that is about production? R.Park replies, yes. A. Levine asks,in terms of design,is each lab specifically designed for a wet or dry lab or by disciplines like physics or chemistry? M.Rice replies, there are nuances in terms of how we design the labs, primarily number of sinks, and we try to design these rooms as flexible as possible, interchangeability through these labs is important as possible change over time. The MSBA provides great guidelines for these types of spaces. D. Sawhney I comments • Food options catered to the amount of time students have to eat-(45 Mins) • Environmental graphics should work for all students with sensitivities to light and color. • Multi-user toilet rooms must be careful of people from different countries as an open style bathroom is not welcoming to some. • Girls when going through puberty or have that time of the month should have their own space. • Some individuals that may need physical assistance in the bathrooms, where do they fit in the programming? • How do we spread people throughout the building? Can we run a model? R.Parks replies to the multi-user toilet rooms topic was brought up in the last meeting and a few people from various backgrounds also shared the same concern, confirming that some are not open to a multie use bathroom, so the Team is investigating this more closely. • Potentially more of all gender rooms but still have the gender toilet facilities throughout S.Thesayi suggest instead of labeling a male vs female bathrooms label them as restroom with menstrual products and restrootns with urinal screens. M. Rice replies this is a complex topic and we'll be having additional discussion on this topic. Other Program Rock Room and areas of respite: connect with peers in this calm environment. Field house-renovate or new • S.Avery comments important element for the students Pool Central Offices: Community Welcome Center: Auditorium: no more than 13,000 nsf Gymnasium:not to exceed 18,000 nsf,MSBA will participate up to 12,000 nsf *Areas more than the MSBA guidelines will be at the sole expense of the district Discussion: A.Baker comments to consider the library as a whole area for respite(heart of the school) A.Akram refers to the identity and culture idea and how she likes what was done in Waltham and Somerville for environmental graphics. What more can we do to understand the culture of the students and what is the process to gather this information? My students tend to be very animated and loud, and dance, how can we incorporate that into the actual design of this phase and take that into consideration when designing these respite spaces? R.Park states that there isn't one single identity we're trying to represent in the design,it's about many identities, but we plan on having a student visioning session to give students the opportunity to share ideas face to face. Ineligible spaces Swimming Pool&New Field House: MSBA will only be allowed if the school already has an existing pool, but it will be considered a separate project with separate funding. Page 4 of 5 Skating Rinks,Indoor Tennis Courts: MSBA will not fund. District Administrative Office ace: MSBA may allow but will not participate. Other spaces as determined by the MSBA. 3.
